Things that drive you mad about the school run

I'll start... The group of parents who stop to chat on the pavement right in the way of everyone.

OP posts:

@imstayinginside - that only works if you have one child. I have dc2 on the path side as hers is a baby seat so takes longer, but dd1 still has to climb into her seat.

I dislike the gates being so narrow - we have a queue of parents from 2 directions plus parents trying to get out as well which makes chaos. I prefer the covid system of dropping off/picking up at the gate, although definitely hated the staggered start times. I love using wraparound care as I miss most of the issues however

camelfinger · 02/02/2022 19:42

Basically anything car related. Anything else pales into insignificance.

Livedandlearned · 02/02/2022 19:42

I always wonder why people park so they have to get their kids out into the road.

RedskyThisNight · 02/02/2022 19:43

People who pull up across the parking spaces, therefore blocking the access to the parking spaces; everyone already in the spaces; and making it harder for other cars to travel down the road.

Actually parents that just pull up anywhere near the school and don't park properly. It's inevitably in the way and/or dangeous.

EveningOverRooftops · 02/02/2022 19:49

The parents who won’t corral their kids on the narrow strip of pavement so you have to step into the road.

The parents who won’t properly supervise their kids on bikes or scooters they’ve bought to pick them up with. Fuck the lot of you who don’t I am sick to death of being ridden into and bruised and injured.

The parents walking side by side with tank like prams down a path with no room to walk past.

The parents tying their yappy, clearly stressed out and anxious and frankly distraught and overwhelmed dogs on or near the school gate. This will make the dogs hate people, noise and walks.

The ones who stop dead and block the path.

The ones taking their army of kids into the teeny corner shop or worse leaving them to their own devices so you can get milk. Too tip, bring a back pack, get it in the way there.

I no longer have to do the school run for my own DC but it boils my piss parents still do this when I collect friends DC.

'The 20 parents in front all trying to speak to the poor teacher on the door about real trivial things, whilst she’s politely telling them to email
Her for the 100th time this term'

This exactly ^ some people ask the most idiotic of things; I honestly don't know how to teachers keep their cool! A classic was a dad asking if the looming non uniform day meant all or half of the uniform as letter didn't say Hmm

Blackmagicqueen · 02/02/2022 19:52

Twattergy · 02/02/2022 19:54

Having to make small talk. Yes, I am an anti social cowbag.

Bluebellbike · 02/02/2022 19:56

I am long past the school run stage but for most of the dogs brought on the school run it was their walk for the day. Most of the parents didnt even notice the stinking pile left on the pavement.

Blackmagicqueen · 02/02/2022 19:57

,@Twattergy than I must be too! Its sods law I bump into people when I've had no sleep, was hoping for a quick covert pick up and just can't be bothered!

ImStayingInside · 02/02/2022 19:57

@Findahouse21 ah I have DD1 in the front and DD2 in the back on the passenger side so can make sure they’re both pavement side. I have never thought of what I’d do if had 3DC …
It’s still annoying getting past a car door WIDE open on the narrow road DD’s school is on.

RandomMess · 02/02/2022 19:58

The fact I can't leave my street and get anyway between 8.20 & 8.50. I'm not even that close to the school but it keeps getting bigger and bigger and there are more and more cars parked up.

Sunshinedreaming2022 · 02/02/2022 20:02

The parents who get to the school 45minutes before pick up time just to ensure they have a parking space, when they only live a 15minute walk away.

Tittyfilarious81 · 02/02/2022 20:03

At pick up time there are parents who walk incredibly slow up the path holding everyone else up you can't get past them without walking in the road it drives me absolutely mad

Tittyfilarious81 · 02/02/2022 20:05

There are parents who park up at 2 pm at our school a full 1hour and 15 minutes before the kids are out just so they can park up
mafted · 02/02/2022 20:10

That if I'm running a bit late you can guarantee they'll have opened the doors early but if I'm early they'll be late in or out.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 02/02/2022 20:15

@Tittyfilarious81

No way?!!!! Really!

Tittyfilarious81 · 02/02/2022 20:21

@OnceuponaRainbow18 yes really its absolutely insane that they go there at that time and sit in the car on their phones or reading 1 bloke I know finishes work at 2 drives to school 5 minutes away and then goes sleep til 3 10

UnderripeBanana · 02/02/2022 20:21

Parents who drive in, as the catchment is a third of a mile. And ESPECIALLY the ones that are so important they have to park on the zigzags 🙄 or idle 🙄

Even the lovely school secretary was privately moaning about them to me. Someone rang to say they were stuck in traffic and were running late while I was in the office. She was polite on the phone but had some choice words about parents who drive in once she'd hung up.

Whatthefrigisthis · 02/02/2022 20:22

@HoneyFlowers

Also there is one mum who has the loudest voice and walks like she's so important and if her child gets a certificate the whole playground hears about it!
Is she an ' Amanda ' from Motherland?
maddiemookins16mum · 02/02/2022 20:23

The parents who feel the need to carry their strapping year 6 children’s book bag/lunch box as if their wains simply cannot manage such a simple thing. Oh and then there’s the ones who don’t park, just stop and let the kid climb in the car.

SoftPillow · 02/02/2022 20:25

Lack of parking

Kazzyhoward · 02/02/2022 20:25

The fact that I can't get to work between 8.45 and 9.15. The village where I have my office is completely log jammed as there are narrow single width roads, and every sodding day, there's a battle of wills between parents in their cars as to who has to reverse, meanwhile cars are stacking up behind in each direction. Every single sodding day. If I don't get there beforehand, I just park up outside the village and wait for the craziness to subside. Even outside the peak craziness, I often arrive at my office car park to find some muppet has parked across the entrance, blocking access.

ponkydonkey · 02/02/2022 20:26

Parking on the zig zags out side school for near on 15 years... 🙄
Funnily enough when the police are standing there she parks a whole 30 seconds up the road
Her walk to school is 7 minutes

drspouse · 02/02/2022 20:38

The DC (mine) who imitates a snail.
The parents who think it's OK to stop on a double yellow because they aren't parked.
