Are schools actually reopening on June 1st?

Our school has made plans to open when they are allowed to but we’ve not received any of when that will be. Have I just missed the announcement that June 1st reopenings are going ahead?

The primary school I'm a governor at had plans in place but has received advice from the LA that it's better to wait till the 15th for various reasons (and they now have more time to take on board the recent advice for EYFS settings).

If you haven't had anything confirming a start date I would assume it's not happening yet.

LucyLastik · 29/05/2020 15:54

We are opening on 8th

HunterHearstHelmsley · 29/05/2020 15:55

I've just been chatting to my teacher next door neighbour. They are opening on Monday.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 29/05/2020 15:56

DS’ school is opening on the 8th for one year, then 9th, 15th and 22nd for the Other years going back.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 29/05/2020 15:56

My DC’s school reopens on the 2nd, so yes

Sparticle · 29/05/2020 16:18

My DC's school had all its plans sorted and communicated to us parents for opening on Monday. But then the council emailed schools on Wednesday evening and 'advised' them not to open. So they don't feel like they can go against this 'advice' and are now not opening. Very annoying, especially given BJ's announcement last night that they should start to reopen...

iamthankful · 29/05/2020 21:19

8th here

godyouareahhhhh · 29/05/2020 21:28

8th here too.

MoonriseKingdom · 29/05/2020 22:44

We had detailed plans sent to us for Reception to start next week then staggered return of other groups. However, then the council advised no to opening so they are continuing key worker childcare only for now.

Proudpeacock · 29/05/2020 22:49

My niece does back on the 2nd

Proudpeacock · 29/05/2020 22:50

Sorry meant to say she is yr 6

TheSultanofPingu · 29/05/2020 23:02

We're back on the 2nd.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 29/05/2020 23:02

Ours is 3rd for yr 6, i think the younger ones might be later but not sure. Nothing planned for other years.

ParkheadParadise · 29/05/2020 23:06

Had a e-mail from my LA today. Dd starts school in August. She is returning to nursery on the 11th. She will be attending 3 morning's a week. All hubs in the area stop next week and the kids will be returning to their usual school.

NeilTheBaby · 29/05/2020 23:10

My school and my daughter's both going back for the planned year groups Monday. Unless anything changes in the next 2 days but I've spent all evening sorting resources so I hope not!

Merename · 29/05/2020 23:12

@ParkheadParadise, do you mind if I ask, I’m assuming you are glasgow because of your username! Is it a Glasgow nursery/school? We are south lan but also DD due to start in Aug and I wondered if anything was happening with the announcement saying they’ll hope to have those transitioning in in June. Haven’t heard anything though. I really hope we get similar to you, that would really help her I think. Will your DD just be in nursery for a couple weeks or is it a summer placement?

BackforGood · 29/05/2020 23:14

Depends on the school, the LA, the year group.
Contact your school to find out, if your dc are in an age group that you think might be going back.

cabbageking · 29/05/2020 23:15

Each school has set their own arrangements. Some are not going back yet. The onus is on the school to inform parents when their child can return and how this will be organised.

bonsaidragon · 29/05/2020 23:27

We got an email today to say they will open on Monday as planned.

GreyishDays · 29/05/2020 23:32

Is it just years Reception, Yr1 and Yr 6 though, so if your children aren’t in that group they won’t have needed to get in touch? Although it would be good of them to tell you something.

We’ve had a text and email to say what’s happening (Scotland, so not going back til aug).

What do other parents or pupils think? Maybe you need to check. 1st is Monday isn’t it?

Pipandmum · 29/05/2020 23:32

Yes our school is having reception, y1 and 6 back from June 1. They were to have Y10 and 12s back from the 4th for one day a week but that's now pushed to June 15 as per government. Our school has kept us well informed and did a youtube thing lasting four hours (divided by year group) where you could type questions and the Head would answer live. Very useful. But we are a private school...

ParkheadParadise · 29/05/2020 23:38

@Merename
I'm in East Ren .I think they are the first LA to put plans in place. It looks like it only for the kids starting in Aug and those who are in P7 going on to secondary.
As far as I know it will only be for a couple of weeks. I'm happy to send her as I think it will help to get her ready for August.
Hope you hear something from your LA soon.

CovidicusRex · 30/05/2020 08:03

Ok, I thought perhaps the government hadn’t given permission yet. I doubt they’re waiting for LA advice. They’re private and have been desperate to reopen since day one which is why I was surprised not to hear anything but it’s half term so maybe they’re not in office?

@covidicusrex seems poor you've not heard and your dc could be back Monday! Especially as you are paying for this. Lots of private schools around here are not opening until September.

GreyishDays · 30/05/2020 08:17

So are your children in the years going back from Monday?

Are you sure they haven’t told you what’s happening? What’s your plan for Monday?!
