Are schools actually reopening on June 1st?

Our school has made plans to open when they are allowed to but we’ve not received any of when that will be. Have I just missed the announcement that June 1st reopenings are going ahead?

My dc’s school have decided not to open for reception children for the rest of the summer term Confused

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 30/05/2020 08:45

It seems really bad communication. We've had emails from our school at every stage (or after random bbc announcement) saying what their stages in the plan or opening is.

So i know all the schools precautions.

GreyishDays · 30/05/2020 08:56

Are you not on a WhatsApp group or something for the year group? I’m really stressed for you. Is there another parent that the emails could have gone to? Have you checked the school website?
You need to tell your child(ren) what’s happening.

CovidicusRex · 30/05/2020 08:58

@Russell19 in all fairness we’re not sending ours in but it would be good to know whether they’ll still be having online lessons as usual or what. The last communication we had stated their plans for opening and that they would get back in touch once it was confirmed that it would happen. I’d still expect an email at this point though.

@GreyishDays nothing on website but that doesn’t tend to have anything like that on it anyway. Don’t be stressed out for me. We’re on a (very extended at this point) holiday anyway but I would have liked to know whether I need to log him on for online learning tomorrow or whether we’ll be getting work emailed to us etc. I’m not overly concerned about it though, he’s only year 1 so it doesn’t make a huge difference.

Oh that’s ok then! I was imagining a couple of nine ish yr olds who didn’t know if they were going back on Monday.

bulletjournalbilly · 30/05/2020 09:04

Hi Op

DC in an independent too, going back 1 June, full capacity for each year group.

I am shocked you haven't heard from them. We've had constant contact.

What have other parents said?

Russell19 · 30/05/2020 09:07

Well tomorrow is Sunday so it won't be then, guessing you mean Monday. I would assume if you haven't heard anything things will be carrying on as they have been.

Russell19 · 30/05/2020 09:07

And without being harsh, now you have revealed your situation I don't think you need to worry really.

Shitfuckoh · 30/05/2020 09:12

1 of ours was set to be the 8th, LA send out information to the schools based on SAGE information. So now opening on the 15th - for limited days & years a week.

niki26 · 30/05/2020 09:22

My DD is private school going back Monday - have had a lot of communication from the school including 4 letters yesterday! One of which was directed to my DD, advising her that things will look a little different and pictures of where her belongings will need to go and where she will be sitting etc. They also informed us of details for the two separated groups so I have been able to tell her which of her friends will be with her.

Hairydogmummy · 30/05/2020 09:24

My next door neighbour is a primary teacher. They're going back on the 15th. All sounds a bit pointless though. She can have 7 out of 30 in her class each day, all work done on a piece of paper and taken home or thrown away, no touching anything like books or equipment, and no new work, only stuff already done and the same to be set for the kids at home.

WoWsers16 · 30/05/2020 09:29

We are back Monday - we have years 6 , 1 and reception back.
Think we have all year 6 children coming back, 20 out of 28 year 1s and 20 out of 28 receptions :)
Each class split into 2 bubbles :)

CovidicusRex · 30/05/2020 10:46

@Russell19 we’ve been getting communications on weekends throughout (like I said, they’ve been a bit OTT about this). Not worried obviously, I was just very confused about whether schools were actually allowed back or not because I was expecting an email (joyously) announcing such.

Russell19 · 30/05/2020 12:43

Well yes they are, mine is on 3rd June but it seems schools are allowed to do what they think is right/safe.

WyfOfBathe · 30/05/2020 13:11

DD's school (state primary) are having R/1/6 back on Tuesday.

None of the schools in the trust where I teach are going back until "at least the 8th", but that's a trust decision not a government one.

Merename · 30/05/2020 14:25

Thank you @ParkheadParadise, me too! Hope it goes well for your DD.
