Has anyone received any money back for cancelled school trips yet?

Not yet. Dd was meant to be going on one tomorrow and all we've heard is that the school, LEA and insurance companies are in discussions

Topseyt · 25/04/2020 11:41

Nope. DD was going to Mexico in July with school. They don't seem hopeful of a refund and have said that she might have to sell it on to someone else who wants it next year.

DD is year 13, so will be at uni this time next year and unable to go on a trip with her former school.

babycakes1010 · 25/04/2020 11:45

Yes we've had refunds

bettyboo40 · 25/04/2020 11:46

I'm supposed to be running a trip to Germany in July. I know it realistically won't happen. The travel company we have booked with are being really vague, taking a let's wait and see approach. They haven't cancelled it yet. The problem is I'm not collecting in instalments at the moment so I'm not sure how we would even pay the final balance due next month.
My daughter had a trip cancelled last month but we've been told the refund will happen, minus some costs, when school reopens.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 25/04/2020 11:46

Yes, we got the money back on the day the school closed.

Ds2 was going on a science trip to Croatia in July, he's gutted (tho not surprised tbh).

We have been promised a refund (it was £2k +) but not had it yet.

Another day trip planned fir March but which didn't go ahead was £70, not heard about that but it's not a total disaster. I am hoping they may rearrange that one as it was linked to an extra curricular activity which will continue.

SeasonFinale · 25/04/2020 21:29

All refunded before Easter holidays at our school.

SE13Mummy · 27/04/2020 23:40

Yes. Overseas trip refunded in full just before the Easter break.

Daffodil101 · 27/04/2020 23:42

NYC trip, £1400, no refund as apparently the insurance they chose didn’t cover it.

Disgusting really.

Onehellofaride · 27/04/2020 23:43

No refund yet here. It wasn’t an abroad trip just a uk residential which they were due to go on at the beginning of April. No communication since the original email saying it had been cancelled and refunds would be given in due course

PettsWoodParadise · 28/04/2020 07:15

July trip to Germany refunded No quibbles. Waiting to hear about history trip to Berlin due to take place in September. Suspect that will be cancelled.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/04/2020 07:17

Yes refunds for two different dc schools and haven’t even had to ask.

KittenVsBox · 28/04/2020 07:57

Yes, refunds for a UK based one and an abroad one. Not been told the second one has been cancelled, but weve got all the money back, so assume its cancelled!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 28/04/2020 08:02

No, DS was supposed to go to Iceland in March.

Despite the government advising against school trips abroad, apparently the travel company is saying that Iceland was not on the banned list Hmm

Am hoping for re scheduling

MagisCapulus · 28/04/2020 08:03

No refund as ours got rescheduled for october

OhCantThinkOfANewName · 28/04/2020 08:07

Scout trip to France £850, August. No word as yet.

MsTSwift · 28/04/2020 08:09

Ski trip at Easter for year 9 dd that didn’t happen £900 down. Written it off tbh🙁. Sisters kids at private school going same week got their money back 3 days after they were told it was cancelled - makes me think if we were going to be refunded would have had it by now.

AveEldon · 28/04/2020 09:10

I chased both school this week - one has said we should get money back next week, the other said the provider was offering credit so they may go next year

It appears lots of travel companies like PGL are refusing to refund schools and only offering credit to be used on future trips

No refunds here yet but they still haven't canceled it and it's in June.

missyB1 · 28/04/2020 09:13

Nothing back yet. We paid £500 for a trip that should have been happening in May. School said we will get a refund- I will believe it when I see it!

Beeep · 28/04/2020 09:18

NYC trip, £1400, no refund as apparently the insurance they chose didn’t cover it

Oh dear. That's a lot to lose.

bettybattenburg · 28/04/2020 09:28

Yes,we got the money back for one due in October. It was a useful academic one (my eldest two did the same trip) for a GCSE subject so when lockdown is over we will go there ourselves but it's sad for the pupils who will miss the opportunity.

The school were absolutely right to cancel it for the reasons that they specified.

RoseDog · 28/04/2020 09:32

We've been told either rebook or lose money for ds football trip through InspireSport, they have been very shady on their website about refunds and now the school has said its def no refund, I might be tricky to rebook so I'm probably saying goodbye to £750!! And never letting the kids book a school trip again!!

Womenwotlunch · 28/04/2020 09:36

Spent 1.5k for trip to Iceland. Have been told that there are problems with refunds .
Absolute disgrace

FrangipaniBlue · 28/04/2020 09:49

I have for a trip to France in June.

Fully refunded less the deposit (£125) that the school have already paid, but they are trying to get this back either from the travel provider or through insurance.

They've said it could take up to 6 months.
