Has anyone received any money back for cancelled school trips yet?

PGL trip which should have been last week, re-booked for 2nd week of September.

Parents all have mixed views.

Personally if the classes are all back, and mixing together I don't feel it's much higher risk.

It might be a bit much for the kids, being away from home after lockdown if they don't go back in June though.

We will be getting a refund from PGL for my daughter's trip.

2k on a trip to China which was supposed to be beg of April... Haven't seen a penny yet. Also around 200 pounds on a UK residential due to happen this week and also no refund.

We have chased it twice and were told they are looking at it. I am going to be really upset if we lose it.... So trying to keep positive!!!

Yes we decided to take partial refund for a trip due in july so lost deposit. Decided to get some of the money now just incase and we received it a couple of weeks ago.

A lot of the companies schools (and youth groups) use are being, shall we say, unhelpful about refunds and only offering rebookings, or are saying that it is still possible that July/August bookings will go ahead so groups will forfeit the money if they cancel at this stage.

We’ve had the deposit back for one (hadn’t yet paid in full), not had anything back for the Germany trip but the school have said they’re pursuing an insurance claim so could take a while.

OxanaVorontsova · 19/05/2020 17:50

The DfE's RPA insurance is paying out for all trips cancelled due to Covid, so unless schools aren't signed up to this it shouldn't be a problem.

The companies running the trips aren't refunding as they risk going out of business if they do. Most have offered to rearrange to next year though.

I know PGL are being quite difficult to deal with for non school based organised trips. Only offering rebookings but the young people will be different people and no idea if numbers will be the same the following year. Groups that can't afford to refund parents for a year and hope they get the money in the following year. I think they're are being awful.

I'm back a year later to let you know that we finally got a refund yesterday...it's took a year but the school got in contact on Monday to say the local council insurance was paying it including our non refundable deposit!
