This is why I have walked out of an open evening.

OP posts:

As a local independent school used a grocer’s apostrophe on the first page of its website I’d say standards vary across both sectors.

I wouldn’t have been impressed by the school either, OP.

I’m sure it was a joke.

Pandaintheporridge · 10/10/2019 06:51

No greentartan, I was just thinking it's best the OP goes private so she doesn't bother the state school teachers for how many years. As she surely would Smile

Extraordinary that parents who want and expect their children's teachers to use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation are now labelled as troublesome.

MarchingFrogs · 12/10/2019 07:16

think you'd best go private OP.

We haven't actually been told that it's a state school, though?

Judging by posts on social media, using 'draw' to mean 'drawer' does appear to be one of this year's go-to misuses of words. Give it a bit longer and ot will probably turn up as an official alternative in the OED...

Math’s is the original, properly punctuated contraction of mathematics. Over time people have dropped the apostrophe so that maths has become standard but math’s isn’t incorrect, the apostrophe indicates that the letters “emeatic” have been omitted.
