I loved teaching secondary kids 9a nd yes everyone used to say " i dont know how you can do it") they werent formt he most advantagsous backgrounds and one kid I taught the onlu gcse hge got was a a C in history! He now digs the M^.

Howver I was turnng intot he most cynicla teachere there - had meen there done it and needd a break - also I didnt want o have to shout at someone elses kids all day and then be oo tired to deal with my own.

In my first year I remember crying over aset of books I was marking that bore no ressmblance to what I had taught them.

dh moans when he has to do a presentation to adults! Well try teaching medieval history fro 6 hours a day to 30 kids each time AND MAKING every lesson f un, timing it , marking, watching out fro special needs, differentiating etc

Have any of hte none teachers eveer seen the planning that goes into ONE lesson?

Had no internet access for 2 weeks now (thanks Tesco net!) so I've missed all these threads. Can I add it isn't just teachers. With all the furore last year & this over tax credits there is often a post complaining about "IR Tossers" (can't remember who said that but it really wound me up) or generalising about how crap the IR staff are... I don't work on tax credits (thank god) but I do work for the IR. People see it as impersonal & a fair target, but do make offensive & generalised comments about the staff. Probably people working for other employers that get slagged off on here feel the same. You can't take it personally. I try not to read the tax credit threads now because it just annoys me so much. There have also been other IR threads in the past & all along the lines of how useless the staff are- not that the poster might have omitted a vital part of the story & might have caused the problem...
