It's difficult to add something to this thread without starting a new polemic, my mother is a teacher and I used to teach at university long time ago, and I find interesting so many parents dealing with teachers as if they were stupid when those same teachers are the ones who act as parents when the parents don't pay appropiate attention to their children. A very simple and superficial example is the typical parent complaining that the child is always with a slimmy thing hanging from his nose because in the school they allow them to go around like that when is the first responsability of the parent and not of the teacher to teach the child about cleanliness.

I have heard a friend complaining about teachers because no body contacted her to ask what was wrong, the day she sent the girl to school in pijamas.

Or the parent complaing about bullies, when they are the first to condemn discipling in the school.
I know as a teacher you don't get any right to complain, the child can kick you, swear at you, or intimidate you and it's perfectly excusable for him/her to do that but you don't have any rights.

So I really want to thank you Cod, HMB and so many other teachers for continueing to teach and be interested in children when there is, so many times, so little apreciation for your work.

Thanks

twogorgeousboys · 21/09/2004 13:35

Cod, if I were teaching at the moment, I'd just give Mumsnet a wide berth. Why work your ar*e off all day to help other people's children and then get hammered for it when you log on to Mumsnet at night.

codswallop · 21/09/2004 13:37

if I wereteaching at the moment I would deliberately try and Irritate all the mothers I COULD.

MIND YOU THANKS GOD FRO SECONDARY NO EFFIN PARENTSTHINKING THEYA RE EDUCATION EXPERTS SIMPLY BECASUE THEY WENT TO SCHOOL

oops rant lock on

I totally agree with coddy
i have only just started looking at education thread again after staying clear of them for a long time
Really sad that HMB has gone
I too have felt like doing so in the past

SoupDragon · 21/09/2004 13:49

But MNers complain about virtually every other profession/personality type/sex as well.

fio2 · 21/09/2004 13:49

oh god, i didnt realise there were so many threads on this subject!

tamum · 21/09/2004 14:01

I agree coddy, I think a lot of people need to get a sense of proportion.

motherinferior · 21/09/2004 14:03

Just don't start slagging off journalists, OK ?

tamum · 21/09/2004 14:10

I'm just waiting for the "All geneticists are pants" threads to start....

SoupDragon · 21/09/2004 14:13

MI, I think we did journalists last year

poppyseed · 21/09/2004 14:21

Hey - we all know what comes with the careers that we choose so we need to take it on the chin and accept that teaching has always been used as a political pawn and that everyone is permitted to have an opinion about it. It is a shame that these so called experts don't enter the profession however!! I just hope that the parents of the children that I taught were pleased with my efforts in their children's education and that if they had had any complaints that they would have addressed them directly to me rather than moan on about then to their friends or on MN. If we choose to tell others our occupation then we must accept everything that comes our way or abstain from those threads. I hope that hmb does return and that we still get some good education debates going and that people don't think that they are walking on thin ice all the time. I am sure that we can discuss without being rude can't we? or haven't I been on mumsnet long enough??

popsycal · 21/09/2004 14:23

sorry poppyseed
i agree with very little of your post
dont want to offend you but there you go
