homework

I have just finised marking a class set of homework for a second set (very able) of kids in Y9. These are nice kids who I enjoy teaching. There were 25 in the class, one was away on the day the work was set. Do you want to guess how many were done?

OK another one. Set 2 in Y11 class of 22. Howmany were done?

No shit Copper top! This is a second set who are all predicted cs or ds. I'm not teaching them this year, I had them last year, but a mate of mine is. I wonder how many of their parents post, as others have on other threads that 'teachers bring out the worst in them'? That is the class with the lad who's father told him that teachers only set homework because they are too lazy to set the work in class.

Great isn't it? I wonder how many of their parents will be moaning and bitching when the kids fail to reach their potential?

hear, hear hmb!
I'm fed up of wasting my time chasing h/w. I know write in their h/w diaries which takes up a good 10 mins of the lesson. After several missing h/ws I send a letter home. That way the parents cannot at a later time when reports are written say they had no idea. Sadly, this makes no difference in the kids doing the h/w but it does save some of my time.

I do bribe. Bu there are limits and tbh I am not going to buy sweets out of my hard earned cash for kids who should do the flaming thing for their own good.

I'm sick to the death of this sort of crap and it is only the third week of term. And to be quite honest I'm sick of some mumsnetters bad mouthing homework and teachers. I'm f*ing well sick of it. I'm getting to the point of saying 'let 'em fail if they want to' And them watch the parents go mental

folks!!!

something that may work for kids not handing in homework is a 'homework raffle'

each lesson, each child that hands intheir homework gets a raffle ticket. they gather them each time

after a period of time (say 2 weeks to start with, then a month, then a half term etc) you draw the prizes from the raffle
then more homework you hand in, the more chance you have to win
