Is second grade the same as year 2?

I know they aren't the same ages but in terms of difficulty and ability. If I was told to get something for year 2 and turned up with something for second grade would that be fine?

Second grade is more like Year 3. I know they have one less year of schooling, but at age 6/7, they absorb everything so quickly.

Yes, second grade is year 3. My kids are at British School in the USA, this is correct. However, American schools start at age 5-6 (kindergarten) so there is a bit of a lag there, some aspects of second grade are closer to year 2, its difficult to equate the two systems.

2nd grade is year 2 (or p3 if you are in Scotland or NI)

K = R (England) or p1 (Scotland/NI)
1st = yr1 or p2
2nd = yr2 or p3

My dc have been in the US system, the English system and the Scottish system and between all our moves and my 4 dc we did pre-k to 5th in the US and then then pre-school to now S2 in Scotland/England.

US 2nd grade = UK yr3

Canada 2nd grade = UK yr2

The systems are quite different and go at quite a different pace. The way things are taught (esp math) is very different, but generally you will find the levels are ok-ish. We found that the US system (or at least the TX system) pushed math way faster than British schools, but lagged behind in literacy. I would say this was the case up until about 3rd/4th grade when the literacy levels caught up. When we moved back here all my dc were ahead in math by at least a year having been taught in the TX system, however the methods they had been taught were quite different.

When we moved to the USA, my DSs went from Y3 to 3rd grade and Y1 to 1st grade - same academic year (we deliberately moved them up), but they were behind their classmates in most subjects. As I said, children absorb a lot at age 6/7 so any advantage in starting school at 4/5 is quickly lost.

When we moved from the US to the UK, my DD moved from non-learning KG straight to Y2. She was a total non-reader but was on the top table by half-term.

Wow- how can a simple question which imo is relevant attract such rudeness?

People post on threads to be helpful and you are the one asking the question op- have a bit of common courtesy and whilst you're learning, teach your child the same, children have a habit of using their parents as an example and from the snippet of you on here- you're not setting a very good example.

My 6 year old dd has impeccable manners, shame the same can't be said for you.

It's a bit difficult to answer your question when you haven't given enough context. "something for grade 2" - in which subject? What kind of materials? Why can't you just get what has been asked for? Why not ask "What kind of X would I need for a year 2 class/child?"

All of these would help someone answer your question but instead you're being short with posters who are just trying to help based on the limited information you've given (seemingly expecting the rest to be delivered by telepathy)?
