Why is half term so short? I'm not the least bit ready to go back.

I've been fighting off a virus all week and have been feeling lousy. We've been over at my mum's for the week, and had a great time: a couple of trips out. I love spending time with the boys, and just "being" instead of constantly rushing.

Next half term is interminably long, and I'm dreading it already.

We have another week to go. Would be weird facing going back to school on Monday.

Ds1 is already counting down the days to Christmas.

MamaMaiasaura · 28/10/2006 12:28

I agree that this week has flown by, not helped by the crap weather.

SueW · 28/10/2006 12:33

I am deeply envious of all those who have two weeks in this, the longest term of the year.

Next year our school will finish on Wednesday evenign so have an extra couple of days and I really hope this is the first step towards a 2-week holiday.

nikkie · 28/10/2006 20:17

That is why I want to move onto the 6 term year then we would get 2 weeks now instead of the long winter term

Whizzz · 28/10/2006 20:19

It was my first week off & it felt great !!

MerlinsBeard · 28/10/2006 20:19

we have only just started half term here and its just for one week.

KBear · 28/10/2006 20:22

Agree, too short. Been working most of the week so feel I haven't seen the kids much. Am sad!

chocolateshoes · 28/10/2006 20:34

We are making the 1st step to the 6 term style and have an extra day off (mon) plus 2 inset days so it means our kids don't actually come back into school til Thurs. I'm like you though Roisin - still can't shake off this heavy cold and really don't feel ready to go back on Tues.,

roisin · 28/10/2006 20:41

We had INSET the day before we the holidays ... I hope yours is more worthwhile than ours was chocolateshoes!

One week deffo not long enough. Kids are knackered, especially when their lovely teacher gave them a project to do over half term ("oh but do make sure you still have fun children!"). Thanks a bl**dy bunch

chocolateshoes · 28/10/2006 20:45

We have a day in a hotel with a 'guru' on T&L. Hope the lunch is good!

nikkie · 28/10/2006 20:49

whats T & L?
Did you see yesterdays thread on Insets?

rustycreakingdoorbear · 28/10/2006 21:45

Teaching and learning?

TwigTwoolett · 28/10/2006 21:47

bloody hell can't wait till my boy goes back .. he's being a right PITA atm

kickassangel · 28/10/2006 22:57

i know i'm ignorant, but what does PITA stand for?

DumbledoresGirl · 28/10/2006 22:58

Pain in the arse.

mine don't go back until Wednesday.

curlew · 28/10/2006 23:51

I hate to break it to you, Sue, but we have a 6 term year, and we STILL only have a week off!

threebob · 28/10/2006 23:56

I highly recommend 4 x 10 week terms. 2 weeks off 3 times and then all of January off (which is our summer)and a week of december and Feb as well.

10 weeks is a long time, but the 2 weeks is an excellent break.

PretendFiend · 29/10/2006 00:33

"10 weeks is a long time"???? You're not wrong there, threebob!

The longest half we get is usually the 7-8 weeks from now until Christmas, and that's dreadful for the tinies by the end, with the dark and cold and germs, even with all the parties and plays and excitement (or maybe that should be especially with all the parties and plays and excitement!)

6 short terms, 5 1-2 week holidays and one longer one sounds easiest to cope with - I hope we do go that way soon.

Good luck, roisin

alibubbles · 29/10/2006 09:31

I've just had a three week half term! One school was last two weeks and another is this wekk and next week, so only one week overlaap though!

firestorm · 29/10/2006 12:43

we have 6 term years here in east sussex & only had the week off the only difference in the 6 term year is the easter holiday being static & the summer holidays slightly shorter

chocolateshoes · 29/10/2006 13:10

Only just got back to this thread. Yes T&L is teaching & Learning - the big buzz word amongst our senior management team. As I say, hope the lunch is good!

nikkie · 29/10/2006 15:57

thought T & L might have been something more interesting Teaching and learning for teachers sounds like a waste of time

Blandmum · 29/10/2006 16:03

I am back tomorrow BOOO HISSS!

peachyghoul · 29/10/2006 16:12
