Anyone elses kids finish school yesterday, this is ds first day of 7weeks of school holidays, not too bad as we are off on holiday on sun so that takes up 2weeks, now for the other 5weeks me thinks a lot of planning is in operation!

Raining here too. Ds isn't in the after school (now holiday) club today, but we have booked him in over the summer.

At first we felt a bit guilty - but when we look at the programme of things they'll be doing, we would never get round to organising that lot - PLUS he'll be doing it with other kids.

Examples of things they've got organised: trip in Inverary, trip to Dunoon, Art class at the GOMA, visit to the re-opened Kelvingrove, trip to Millport, visit the Glasgow Tall Ship, ten pin bowling, trip to Edinburgh Zoo, day out to Pollok Park with the rangers.... it goes on.

They're harly ever at the "base" !

All for £30 a week!

We will be going away at some point during the summer - it almost seems a shame that he'll be missing some of these outings!

Enjoy your holiday Aimsmum.

The Holiday Club is fantastic value: to the extent that we can afford to book him in for the summer and then not worry if we choose not to put him in.

Our own holiday plans have had to be delayed by at least a aweek, as I have lost my passport and the earliest I can get an appointment at the Paossport Office is next Wednesday (having rung up on Monday this week) and becasue it is a lost passport, I can't get the same day service, I can only get the express "week" turnaround.

This is the end of week one in Central Scotland.

prettybird · 30/06/2006 18:04

WHen do they go back Tassis? Glasgow goes back on 21 August.

ssd · 30/06/2006 18:04

we're on holiday from school now too!

at least the rain has stopped this evening! although I'd prefer rain in the evening and sun during the day cos it'd mean I could gets ds1 into bed at a reasonable time, these light summer nights are murder round here, all the kids are out after 9.30pm and getting ds1 who's 8 in is murder, we have a fight about it every bloody night....

Prettybird, they're back on the 22nd here too. For some reason they get 8 weeks off this year.

Ds starts pre-school nursery on 29th August so that's 9 long weeks with no toddler activities (one down, 8 to go). Oh well, at least the sun has shone for most of week one!

Happy holidays girls!

Crystaltips · 30/06/2006 21:30

Where are you all based ... ???
my Ds finished on Weds and DD today ....
DS has spent the first 2 days in his jammies as I run around after DD as it's her last year in primary ...

watch out the teenager crap and start of hormones !!!

MrsMuddle · 30/06/2006 22:06

Prettybird, where do you stay? We're off to France on Tuesday till 21st July, but then I'll be scrambling about for friends and family to look after the boys on the three days a week I work. I used to work at the BBC and they had a holiday club that went outings like the ones you mentioned, so this is the first year I've been stuck. Is it a local authority holiday club? details please.

daisydreams · 30/06/2006 22:27

prettybird that's a fantastic price. I looked into the holiday club here in Falkirk and it was £20 per day!!! I'm having to give grannie lots of ideas for when I'm at work and plan like a dervish for my days off - hopefully exhaust the los on these days!

gettingthere · 30/06/2006 22:28

I'm on holiday now too and the weather is rubbish. Hope it gets better, going to Yorkshire in August.

schnapps · 01/07/2006 22:59

Really?? We've got another 2 weeks of school left before the holidays start!!!

prettybird · 03/07/2006 09:13

Msr Muddle - it's the Out of School Club close to where I live in the South Side of Glasgow.

It operates from one of the local primary schools (during term time they do pick-ups from at least two other primary schools, including ds').

I believe that there is a waiting list - at least for the after-school element, not sure about the holiday club.

It's run as a chairty (as all the adfter/out of school clubs are?), with funding/subsidy from the Council. They say they are amongst the cheapest in Glasgow - which is why they were told they "had" to put their prices up in April - from £17 to £20 a week for 3-5 days worth of after school care, and from £25 to £30 for 3-5 days of holiday club (I tihnk a single day is still £10 , but not sure). They were really apologetic too aobut putting the pirces up!

I know my SIL uses the "Mega Club", the holiday club run by the City Council at the various leisure centres.

She never managed to get her kids into the after school club at her kids' school - they have been down on the waitng list ever since beofre her ds started - and he goes to secondary school this year. Methingks someone else was abusing the system!

I, on the other hand, only rang up mid June last year, not having got my act totgether, and got ds in straight away!
