Anyone elses kids finish school yesterday, this is ds first day of 7weeks of school holidays, not too bad as we are off on holiday on sun so that takes up 2weeks, now for the other 5weeks me thinks a lot of planning is in operation!

MrsMuddle - Glasgow City Council Holiday Programme Web Site might give you some ideas - altohugh at a quick glance, there is nothing that operates all day, so you would still need a lot of support getting kids from one thing to the next. That might expalin why SIL makes such use of MIL in the holidays!

Its not raining here but cloudy adn the midges are out !
My lot finished on Friday, and today ds is ill and dd1 is 'bored already' but I couldnt take them out as ds has (I think) a migraine.
I am moving house over the holidays so that will take up my time lol
Gillian76 - have FUN in South Uist. We are a bit further north in the Outer Hebrides. Bring rain gear and LOTS of midge repellent - as it was a mild winter they are out early adn in force this year. Hopefully it will be sunny and windy for you!
Prettybird - very interested to read about the programme in Glasgow - we are hoping to be living on the Southside in Glasgow by August but are having a little trouble finding somewhere to rent at the moment. Things are coming up all the time though so it shouldnt be too long. I take it that its a good place to live with kids??
Hope you all have a great holiday and its no too stressful

Well, we like it!

You've got all the parks (Plook Park, Mawell Par, Queens Park....), plus the great transport infrstructure - plus it is cheaper than the West End!

Depends on where you are planning on staying too, I suppose. I'm not really a Southsider (whispers - I was brought up on the North side! ), so I only really know Shawlands (pre-kids) and Pollokshields.

Secondary Schooling is a bit of lottery though, unless you are way out in the suburbs like Giffnock and Newton Mearns. We may move by then!

prettybird · 03/07/2006 17:41

Oops [blsuh]: it's not Plook Park, of course I mean Pollok Park!

harrisey · 04/07/2006 17:24

prettybird - we are hoping for shawlands/pollocksheilds or somewhere round there - the parks are a big attraction.
What is Giffnock like? There are some houses available there.
Schools isnt an issue for us as our kids will go to the Gaelic school which will also have a secondary if we are still there. NM is too far out.

Sorry for hijack!

prettybird · 05/07/2006 09:11

Giffnock is nice too - you've got Rouken Glen Park close by. It is suburbia though - more so than Pollokshields and Shawlands (which is probably why you are seeing more houses there!). I can't really comment about suburbia though - I was brought up in Bearsden and Milngavie and loved it!

The Gaelic Secondary is being built/refurbished just beside where I work. I also know someone whose kids go to the primary (although I've not seen her for ages).

I'm so jealous of you all. DS1 doesn't finish until 21th July, for poor DS2 it's 26th July! We all have end-of-termitis already. I'm dreading dragging them through the next few weeks.

prettybird · 06/07/2006 08:44

Sunnydelight = but remember, we go back the middle of August!

Harrisey - cycling by the school they are refurbishing this morning, I saw it was actually going to be the Gaelic Primary School and not the secondary school as I thought.

ooooh looks like we might have a house in Crossmyloof. Bit suburby (though not Bearsden!!). Near to supermarket, close to Pollock Park, not far to bus/trains into town, got a garden. I never reallly pictured myself living in a wipmy-style street but we need the space for the kids and its just for a year initially, if we stay longer than that we will buy.
Sorry thread hijack again!

prettybird · 06/07/2006 15:08

Crossmyloof will be fine - not too suburby at all! You've got all the facilities of Shawlands on your doorsteo, plus all three parks (Queens, Maxwell and Pollok) close by. The Crossmyloof Morrisons is actually my closest supermarket - but I don't tend to use it a) 'cos the Newlands one is bigger and better and more significantly b) we boycott Morrisons anyway since they changed from Safeway and ruined the range. (Now shop at Lidl's with fortnightly top-ups at Sainsbury's)

harrisey · 06/07/2006 16:29

prettybird, I'd love to chat to you about living in this area, but maybe we could do it on another thread - it would be nice to get some hints and tips about Glasgow for kids and families. Lik where is Sainsbury's? And Lidl? and so on .....
