Today I am learing about sentence structure.

hmm, your second sentence doesn't appear to be one.

I don't understand what the last two are.

robinia · 07/02/2006 22:30

You are lovely (see a complement and a complement)

starlover · 07/02/2006 22:32

no, one is a compliment

Beetroot · 07/02/2006 22:33

complements give further information about another cluase element. IE

The attendant has called me a fool twice

the complement is fool as it adds to the meaning of Me

Adverbials usually add information about the situation such as time.

Roosmum, not helpful when one is trying to learn and feeling very vunerable

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 07/02/2006 22:34

never had complements when I was at school. I thought they were some sort of bran-related health drink.

Twiglett · 07/02/2006 22:36

see try to be clever and get struck by a typo .. I knew that of course, I also know muchly isn't a word

roosmum · 07/02/2006 22:43

beetroot, not intended to be mean...just thought it was ironic as you're learning sentence structure! why vulnerable tho?? lots of people have NO idea about grammar, you obv. know more than most!

Beetroot · 07/02/2006 22:45

It was a list fgs!

Vunerable becasue i am an intelligent womoan with a degree and should have learnt this long ago!

OP posts:
Twiglett · 07/02/2006 22:46

womoan

Beetroot · 07/02/2006 22:46

roosmum · 07/02/2006 22:49

yes i realise it was a list, i was just joking around!

on a serious note tho, i don't think anyone learns this kind of stuff any more (eg in school), do they? we'll all have forgotten how to put a sentence together before long (looks like all hope for apostrophes has already gone...).

robinia · 07/02/2006 22:51

Definitely no grammar taught in my school.

Beetroot · 07/02/2006 22:52

it is intersting though to know how it is ment to work.

OP posts:
Beetroot · 07/02/2006 22:52

OP posts:
starlover · 07/02/2006 22:52

roosmum · 07/02/2006 22:54

Beetroot · 07/02/2006 22:55

I leaned on the stick again happily.

which is the subject/verb/adverial?

OP posts:
roosmum · 07/02/2006 22:57

I (subj) leaned (verb) on the stick (obj) again (comp?) happily (adverb).
