How long is your walk to school?

Just wondering how far you live from your childrens school and how long the walk is to get there?

My child's school is about 0.5 miles from our home so I walk 2 miles per day. Keeps me fit!

takes me around 3 minutes to walk to eldest dd school and around 10 minutes to walk to nursery.

Hassled · 22/03/2012 14:28

1 mile each way and I don't drive (as in I don't know how). As a result I have slim-toned muscley legs that are a sharp contrast with the blubbery tummy and non existent waist line.

Bonsoir · 22/03/2012 14:29

1.4 km. But there is a bus route that is literally door-to-door and takes 5/10 minutes (depending on traffic) once the bus has arrived.

SocietyClowns · 22/03/2012 14:39

On my own about 10 minutes (ie at pick up). With dd1 (and pushing dd2 in the buggy) I allow 25 minutes in the morning because dd1 likes to walk backwards some of the way and we have to check on the snails that live in the wall, of course Grin Hmm

5 minutes tops! We never drive but the school run isn't quite far enough to give me enough exercise each day. Luckily we have dogs!

diabolo · 22/03/2012 16:20

5 miles - hence the car. Grin

Posey · 22/03/2012 16:23

Primary school is a brisk 10 minutes or more leisurely 15 minutes walk. Secondary is 30 seconds Grin

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/03/2012 16:28

10 minutes walk for me, 20 with the DC.

GladysLeap · 22/03/2012 16:31

Would be 20 mins for me but 30 with DD. Don't have time to do that twice plus get my hours in at work so have to drive. Had planned to cycle but road is far too narrow and dangerous.

OddBoots · 22/03/2012 16:31

0.7 miles each way so 2.8 miles per day, the house and the school are at about the same level but there is a hill in the way.

Dillydollydaydream · 22/03/2012 16:34

0.6 miles. Takes about 10 mins to do school run.

Beanbagz · 22/03/2012 16:35

3 minutes walk but up 50+ steps. My DS's best time (from our door to the school playground) is 52 seconds though he had to have DH make sure the road was clear to cross.

ilovedjasondonovan · 22/03/2012 16:38

1 mile for us. All downhill on the way, so takes us 25 mins (with a 3yr and 5yr old walking) to get there. DD2 walking back from the school nursery at lunchtime takes 35 mins up the hill.
I drive them both back at 3pm as I can't make DD2 walk another 2 mile round trip at that time of day.
Takes me 15 mins walking, or 8 mins running to get there.

10minutes down a lovely path Smile its why we havent moved

5madthings · 22/03/2012 16:56

our is a half an hour walk, the boys tend to scoot or bike and i push dd in the pushchair :)

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 22/03/2012 16:57

I'm not sure how far it is but it takes me 30 minutes to walk at a brisk pace, but around 40/45 with DD. When we had a car we drove, now we do a 10 minute walk and a short bus journey - I only walk it when I go and pick DD up.

Tiggles · 22/03/2012 17:54

Just over 1/2 a mile. Miss the school run exercise now I work FT. Used to walk 4 miles a day (carrying DS3 on my back until he could walk it from his second birthday) between school, nursery and playgroup runs.

OctopusSting · 22/03/2012 17:58

1.25 miles, 25 mins walk. I try to walk it when the weather is nice. However trying to get DD's (5&3) to walk home (uphill over rough terrain after a day at school is a nightmare so i usually take the double buggy shoot me now )

moogalicious · 22/03/2012 18:00

The 2 younger dc go to school round the corner from our house, so a 5 minute walk. The eldest (9) goes to school a mile away, so I could clock up 4 miles if I do both runs with her.

PatriciaHolm · 22/03/2012 18:01

5 mins down a small path at the back of the house. Easy peasy!

Kayzr · 22/03/2012 18:01

Mine is just over a mile. I worked out I do about 22 miles a week as DS2 is at playschool 3 times a week which is next to the school.

thestringcheesemassacre · 22/03/2012 18:05

.40 miles, so just over 5 mins.

TheHumancatapult · 22/03/2012 18:07

Now we moved dd school is a 3 min walk we are literally round the corner :)

AwkwardMary · 22/03/2012 18:07

We cycle....it's 3 miles there...3 back and then again at pick up! So that's 12 in all. It would be 2 miles but we go the scenic route whch is safer.
