any charity things are great but that's my personal taste.

Big box of chocs or mince pies.

No -not mince pies! Not if you've been teaching the little cherubs to make them ( as I do)

Seriously, I'm grateful for anything but don't actually expect anything. Once taught in a school where the Form Teachers got quite competitive about their presents which I found a bit disturbing.

Bottle of wine would do fine though .

At DC's school there is a collection for the teachers and TAs - parents have been asked to contribute £10 - which will be used to buy John Lewis gift vouchers.

The teachers are used to receiving Jo Malone and caviar from Harrods at DD's school. No I am not joking!

Any ideas for DS's twenty something reception teacher who is emigrating to New Zealand at Christmas ? (hope it wasn't teaching DS !)

mimsum · 26/11/2008 10:14

I've never given wine as you don't know whether or not the teacher drinks alcohol - I don't drink wine so wouldn't be particularly happy ... the kids make xmas biscuits and put them in decorated bags and make their own cards - ds1 is in secondary school now so it's just a card for his form teacher and chocs for his LSA

I started to give charity gifts via world vision of school text books, school dinners for 50/100 children etc etc a few years ago and they have been really gratefully received.
