Best teachers' presents without question (ie. the ones they are truly grateful for!)

  • Alcohol
  • Any yummy food that's home-made

Folowing on from anuver thred prehaps a nice pocket dictionary would be the purrfect gift......

BoffinMum · 19/11/2008 18:49

Saw that thread - oh yes, how right you are!

asdmumandteacher · 19/11/2008 18:52

Flirty thirty - you are spot on!!

charliesweb · 19/11/2008 18:56

I'm getting Ds1s teachers and TA a nice tree decoration this year. One of my pupils gave me one once and I hang it on the tree every year I thought it was a lovely and inexpensive idea.

The children love giving me their presents but I do feel embarressed if they're obviously expensive. Chocolates are my favourite!!! I never expect a present from anyone and I would never let present giving affect my attitude to the children I teach.

asdmumandteacher - a lot of time spent in schools and a mum who's a teacher!

God knows how many tonnes of pot pourri my poor mother has had over the years...and I hate to say it, but stuff like that does end up going straight to the charity shop.

squeakypop · 19/11/2008 19:27

Bottle of wine

Goober · 19/11/2008 19:29

Got DSs teacher a pretty, handpainted, scented candle.
49p from QD.

HappyMummyOfOne · 19/11/2008 20:13

Teacher and TA both get similar gifts, last year chocs and a necklace. Both do a great job and are lovely.

Head teacher and secretary get chocs. After school club staff also get a gift.

essexgel · 19/11/2008 21:03

Luuurvely box of nuts for DS1 YR4 man teacher, they're in a christmasey box. DS2 YR1 teacher lotion/soap set from shop in states like Body Shop. Also got one of each of the sets for 2 x TA's.

Can i just say (before being shot down in flames) remember the secondary school teachers please! The primary ones really clean up and we get...well..i had a snack sized twix and a bottle of deodorant once

pointydog · 19/11/2008 21:41

they have too many secondary teachers. We can't be doing with that.

asdmumandteacher · 19/11/2008 21:43

SadSad

asdmumandteacher · 19/11/2008 21:43

how about the poor hardworking music teachers?????

pointydog · 19/11/2008 21:45

dd1's music teacher is a good guy. He gets a smile from me.

girlandboy · 19/11/2008 21:45

I usually end up getting some chocs or similar.

Last year the teacher got NOTHING, because he was SHITE!

asdmumandteacher · 19/11/2008 21:51

pointy he would appreciate a bottle i'm sure

JellycatShopkeeper · 20/11/2008 09:44

nice xmas decorations for teachers, including music theme, here

jujumaman · 20/11/2008 16:49

Still want teachers to tell us if not giving is held against you.

Personally, I think it's a load of nonsense. We never gave teachers anything. [bah humbug emoticon]. But having not given last year as I didn't know any better I think this year it's chocs all round.

Tortington · 20/11/2008 16:50

box of chocoltes,

eat the chocolted and replace with fruit - then tell them you are following school guidelines

Smithagain · 20/11/2008 16:53

LOL custardo!

I'm not a teacher, but if I was I would be a bit at the notion that parents might think I would treat their child differently on the basis of whether I had received a present or no.

And actually, we did give my teachers presents when I was a child, but only because I liked doing so, not as any sort of insurance policy for favourable treatment!

DevilsAdvocaat · 20/11/2008 17:08

i'm a teacher and i think you should give a pressie

even if it's a homemade card or picture, it's nice to show your appreciation.

the best pressies are:

wine
smellies
christmas tree decorations
children's story books
other alcohol related products

i'm not that keen on receiving 30 boxes of chocs tbh but then i have no self control.

best ever present was a pair of black velvet reindeer with neon pink horns and glittery backs. they are so tacky kitsch. they get front stage on my fireplace every year.

also, you can't help remembering what people give you and although i don't judge (honest) i worked with a lot of people who did.

DevilsAdvocaat · 20/11/2008 17:10

do you know what else is a good idea?

teacher's stamps saying "well done" etc.

if you want extra brownie points you can get them personalised e.g. mine says "mrs b says well done!".

very cute.

choccyp1g · 20/11/2008 17:17

What do teachers think about the idea of getting something useful for the classroom?Or how would teachers feel about an Oxfam Books pack ?
Obviously it's nice to have "stuff", but there's a limit to how many scented candles you can .

DevilsAdvocaat · 21/11/2008 13:41

things for the classroom are good.

plants are fab.
