Wanting advice on Asperger's and University Applications please

My DS has a diagnosis of Asperger's and will be applying to university this autumn. I wanted to know how others have coped with the application process and the question of disclosure. I think I would need to disclose for DS as he will require at least mentoring type support.

DS also has diagnosis of 'severe anxiety disorder' and takes medication. He gets rest breaks and extra time concessions in exams. Will universities make any concessions for him in terms of the grades for a conditional offer? Or are the exam concessions he already has deemed to make it a 'level playing field'?

Any advice/experiences appreciated thanks.

Hi Boffinmum. I have two kids one dd 18 and a ds 20. They were home educated as school made them too anxious and ill and they were unable to learn in the classroom despite several changes made so I home educated them and they gained 12 and 14 gcses and went onto college to do a levels (with a lot of back up home tutoring) college was certainly not a breeze and wouldnt have worked without tutoring outside college for each subject. They both have a diagnosis of asd and complex learning difficulties. Both want to go to university. I would really like them to be able to achieve. My dd wants to do psychology and is predicted abb grades my ds has aaa and has just finished college and is studying grade 8 music from home and working for me at the moment. (Animal management). He would be interested in learning a computer language of some sort or maybe music. Can you recommend which is the best supportive universities please and offline which one do you work at as your support sounds spot on! They would not have achieved these grades without back up teaching in each subject each week and daily before exams.

It would be better to start your own thread - as this one is years out of date.

My one tip is there is a summer school at Bath Uni for the end of year 12, which I believe can be helpful.

Thank you
Will look into it
Also how do I start anew thread

If on the web click on Talk>>Education at the top, then at the bottom of the threads there is a "Start New thread" option.

On the phone I think you just click Topics, Education, Education then New at the bottom.

I love this post! I have an aspie Daughter in Y11, so just starting to look at Uni courses, as she has to choose her IB subjects after Xmas. Although we’re British, we are also expats and my kids have never lived in the UK, so she may have to deal with a little culture shock as well 😱 It’s encouraging to see that some unis are making allowances/being supportive - hope that also applies to oversees students, as I doubt we’ll get home status. I’ll be following this post with interest.
