eBay

she wants a refund! sake!

I sold 8 highland dance items on Ebay.

They all sold and were paid on the same night. 3rd October.
As they were full kilts and very heavy i arranged a courier to send them. They were collected on the Monday and off they went.

So one went to Canada, one Bewrick Upon Tweed and the rest were all very close to me. 3 ladies picked up and the others were all really close. I live in Central Scotland.

Anyway getting to the point. I got an email from a lady who bought one outfit (full kilt with blouse, matching heavy socks and velvet waistcoat) Saying she wasn't happy with the kilt as it wasn't new. BUT she also bidded and was outbidded on another kilt i was selling and only bidded in the last minutes.
I didn't say it was new and listed it all honestly. Everyone else was happy and has left + feedback, and one lady who came to collect was begging me for other outfits as she had been outbidded.

So the winner im talking about lives close to me. I hadn't heard back to her sinse replying on the 9th untill today. She says the kilt was altered ( we had it made to measure) and she wants a refund. but i listed all the measurements. I told her i wasn't refunding as i listed everything honestly and that i didnt say it was new.

I am thinking.. tomorrow is the last day of The Mod week. www.mod2008falkirk.org/ It really looks to me like she has wanted it for this week only ( i could be VERY wrong) But lots of schools have been doing things and there are kids everywhere in kilts. I hadn't even heard of it but my work was full of children dressed in kilts - in the hundreds easily.

What should i do? I listed it honestly, all the measurements were exact as we had it all hand made. The kilt at a kilt makers and the socks elsewhere ( and they were £30 PER SOCK) Waistcoat was made by a dance shop. All in all it cost over £600 to have made and the seller got it for £128. There was a photo on the listing.

She paid by paypal, but i withdrew the money because it was for christmas shopping.

She bidded on another outfit too but was outbidded in the last minutes. Could she have wanted the other one more?
I have 242 posative feedbacks 100%. I always sell honestly and have never had a problem.

Yes I suppose with hindsight it would probably have been better to sell through your dance school or at a competition. It does sound like she's trying it on a bit, maybe didn't like it when she got it or, as you said, wanted to use it for the Mod.

There was a competition (SOBHD run) on during that week - could she have used it for that?

In any case, I still think you should sit tight. If she does open a dispute, she will have to explain why she did't complain about the hole in the first email.

I have just had a disgusting email from her. I just told her to open a dispute or get lost as i am not wasting my time anymore.
I am actually getting quite upset over this. There was no holes in it. It was in lovely condition when it left here. I posted it stright away, that was 2 weeks ago on monday. It really looks like she has used it. She said her daughter is only 7 too, this fitted my wee sis when she was 12 and was worn in a photoshoot last year by a 17 year old. So it might not fit her daughter and that is why she is wanting a refund. Don't know why she couldnt have said that though.

Email Ebay yourself to tell them about this. Keep the emails she sends to you. I wouldnt bother responding anymore as she doesnt have a leg to stand on if you didnt specify that you accept returns for refunds.

I had this a while ago when a woman bought a bag from me then said it was too big. I had put the measurements on the listing and not selecting that I will refund. Eventually she got the message.

keep her abusive email, too. in fact, keep all of them and point out she didn't bring up this hole business till you told her you wouldn't be refunding her.

cheeky bitch!

stick to your guns.

she was using Ebay to try to get a free outfit for Mod week.

heilan' dancing is huge in this part of the country (Argyll) and this scammer definitely got a major bargain!

they have to go across Loch Long or drive round Loch Lomond to even get their kilts made at all or buy socks and that, holly, in the Cowal area, adding to their costs.

there's one kiltmaker here, but they only do ones for men.

BIG competition every year at the Cowal Highland Gathering for highland dance, though. Loads of Canadians.

^^ Yes, the biggest competition - World Championships. My dd got 4 medals there last year

I sent one to Canada too actually, a jig dress. I had no idea it was big in Canada, but there were lots of Canadians at the Mod.
Oo we went to Glasgow to have them made, i'm in Falkirk. Youd think there would be more with it being so popular higher up. Imagine how hard it would be to make one! We had to go somewhere else to get the socks made as the kiltmaker didn't do it lol.

i promised DD1 we would get tickets to sit in the stands to watch next year.

she was enthralled.

she bounces around all the time and says she is dancing.

omg, holly, the comp was FULL of Canadians. it's mega there.

they even have a judge from Canada.

DH was stunned to learn that their outfits cost more than a man's kilt!

I actually had no idea. It's pretty cool to know that one of the outfits is away to a dancer in Canada though.
The price of the outfits is crazzzzy! (dont know how much a mans kilt is though) BUT £30 for ONE sock! Jeezo!
Aww that is cute! How old is she? my dn is 2.10 and talks so much about 'dancing ladies' She loves angelina. It is so cute!

You'll have to be quick if you want tickets for the grandstand Expat, most of the seats are sold before they go on public sale!

Best bet would be to register wth the Cowal Gathering website so you get advance warning when they will be available. They do have seating in front of the grandstand and it's a bit easier to get those ones for the Thursday or Friday, but again you'll need to get in quick for the Saturday tickets.

PS, I warn you now, it is EXTORTIONATE! They like to rip off the foreign participants.

H&N, £30 per sock is quite cheap now - dd's last pair were £110!

thanks for that, scotia! that is good to know. this would be such a treat for her. she loved watching, although we had to stand.

dd1 is 5 and tall and built like a stick insect giraffe.

but she has very Eastern colouring - fair with chesnut hair that has blonde streaks and green eyes.

£110 a pair OMG

I think that outfit is beautiful hollyandnoah - I hope you get this issue resolved, your buyer certainly sounds rather unpleasant!

Yes it was expensive, but she was 15 at the time, so adult size socks. They have to wear matching socks in championship level but can wear white knee sock as beginners.

DD is in this picture

Cheeky cow - sounds to me like she's bought it, used it & is now making an excuse to return!!

Stick to your gun & do not refund her.

In details it states used & you very clearly gave measurements.

You are not in the wrong.
