I have a barely used eye shadow. Try to list it and couldn't work out why I couldn't put used On. Then right at the very end of taking all the photos I got a little warning. I'm sure used to be able to ?

They took down a listing of mine yesterday for this.

Ridiculous.

Datahub · 19/02/2015 09:20

I wonder why

OP posts:
CuttedUpPear · 19/02/2015 09:30

For the same reason as you can't return used makeup to the shop.

It's to prevent infections being passed on.

TotallyHumiliated · 19/02/2015 09:31

There are many facebook pages dedicated to used make up sales.

Datahub · 19/02/2015 09:55

Oh. I don't do facebook

OP posts:
CosmicDespot · 19/02/2015 10:58

Infection control does seem a good reason.

Datahub · 19/02/2015 11:05

but they sell dirty pants!!

OP posts:
chinstrappenguin · 19/02/2015 11:11

The Pants have to be washed before sale Grin

chinstrappenguin · 19/02/2015 11:12

Just to be clear I am not a dirty pants expert, just seen that question on here beforeGrin

Floggingmolly · 19/02/2015 11:13

Who would actually buy used makeup???

gamerchick · 19/02/2015 11:22

You can't catch conjunctivitis from knickers.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 19/02/2015 11:25

The dirty pants are not sold to be worn, though - not if I have understood correctly!

Whereas the eyeshadow will be used on someone's eyelid, and if the person who originally used it has an infection, and contaminated the eyeshadow, the new user risks eye infections - and if serious, these can cause lasting damage to the eye.

The same would apply to mascara and foundation, both of which are used very close to the eyes. And whilst lipstick isn't used close to the eyes, using something that has been rubbed round a stranger's mouth seems a bit icky, at best.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 19/02/2015 12:41

Would anyone buy used make up? The infection risk from eye make up is pretty high.

Datahub · 19/02/2015 12:42

meh - I bought some Mac eyeshadows on there before. Eyes still fine

OP posts:
Chertsey · 19/02/2015 12:46

I don't think you can sell used pants anymore, clean or otherwise - unless I worded the listing for an underwear set so badly they thought I was selling something different to I actually was.....

I've sold lots of used make-up in the past. It's always amazed me what people will buy on Ebay and I have made a lot of mistakes buying make-up over the years, but it must be 2 years since the last time I tried and failed to list some.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 19/02/2015 12:47

Just because yours were fine doesn't mean everyone's would be.

CatsCantTwerk · 19/02/2015 12:48

Surely used make up goes in the bin? I wouldn't dream of buying or selling used make up.

SoonToBeSix · 19/02/2015 12:49

Nothing to do with infections, you can't sell use perfume any more either.

Chertsey · 19/02/2015 12:52

Really Soon, why's that? I've always bought my perfume part-used, when I run out and it's not my birthday. Saved a fortune.

McFox · 19/02/2015 12:57

I guess that it's to do with cross infection, but it all seems a bit arbitrary when pants, shoes etc are ok.

Even more irritating was when I bought a load of used reusable nappies on eBay for £70, they didn't suit my DS, so a week later I listed them again. The ad was removed for contravening the rules because you can't sell used nappies on eBay apparently. There were about 30 ads for them live at the time!! I was raging and my complaint went unanswered.

SoonToBeSix · 19/02/2015 13:16

Chertsey it's because of new EU directives, basically it's illegal for eBay to allow people to sell used perfume/ make up .

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/02/2015 14:34

What about things like toner? I've sold open and partly used cleanser and toner before.

Datahub · 19/02/2015 15:09

well anyone want a Bobbi Brown Bone ( aka cream coloured) eyeshadow then let me know

Bastarding ebay

OP posts:
SoonToBeSix · 19/02/2015 16:31

Not any more pink.

Tryharder · 19/02/2015 17:43

Don't buy high end make up on Ebay. It will almost certainly be fake and contain things like lead and arsenic.

I have seen MAC make up that looks the business but has been imported directly from Hong Kong.
