At home insemination tips please

Will be ovulating in the next few days as opk is nearly positive. We are trying st home insemination tonight and in 2 days time then day of ovulation.
Does anyone have any tips for it?
We have syringe, specimen cups and a soft cup/moon cup.
Need advice as this is our first time trying insem
How long to keep sperm out of body before inserting.
How long to keep soft cup in.
Any other tips welcome!

Also we have conceive plus lube. Shall we use that and if so how? Mix with sperm, insert before insem?

@tanelx hi I'm currently trying this process too, this is my 2nd cycle trying praying for a miracle!
I didn't use soft cups or pre-seed but I've read lots where people have, if it doesn't work this month I'll try it next month.. good luck

Hi both, just finished our first cycle unsuccessfully :( how did you both get on?

No donor sperm here, but I made our daughter (who's sitting on my lap now) with home insemination. Husband is impotent. Worked on 4th cycle.

I used to put my pelvis tilted up and stay there for half an hour . Or I inseminated just before bed.

Some of the sperm will always get pushed out again or be absorbed so I wouldn't worry about it. Though obviously getting up straight after isn't such a good idea. That said lots of babies have been made during quickies I'm sure...

@kikibo I sat with legs up for an hour after, 3 insems last cycle but pretty certain the timing was way off. Hopefully we can get it bang on this time

I forgot to say I also always made sure I had an ahem orgasm as the contractions that causes are meant to help the sperm advance quicker. They go inwards iyswim.

Don't know whether it was really that important, but thought it couldn't do any harm either. Makes sense though. And it made the whole thing a lot less clinical.

I got my solid smiley on Friday (which stayed on the holder until yesterday), inseminated fri and sat n today (I don’t know why i did it) I just tested again and got another solid smiley??? So confusing xx

Positive opk at 11.30 this morning and peak on clearblue. Have 2 frozen vials when should we inseminate?

Thanks angelmummy17 we did it at 6pm Friday, 10pm Saturday and 1pm today fingers crossed! Been having ovulation pain and ewmc all weekend. Good luck!

@moo my fingers are well and truly crossed for you.. I’m not convinced I even ovulated this month I had 7 days of peak on cb digi, I had some pain on fri night and then lows on cb digi on sat morning and afternoon.. I’ve stopped testing now, I’ve done nothing but stress myself out for the past week because of all they peaks. What’s meant to be will be this month.. I’ve even stopped temping as they are pretty Eratic too.. nightmare! But everything is crossed for you @moo I really hope this is your month 😘

going back a bit now as ds's are 16 and 13 - both were conceived via yoghurt pots and syringes..!

We measured our Basal Body Temperatures - don't remember using ovulation sticks but inseminated on the day of ovulation and the day after (our donor lived 250 miles away so we could only try once a month in a 24 hour period of time).

We would arrive within 10 minutes of the sperm being in the yoghurt pot, which he kept warm on a shelf near a radiator. Stayed lying down for a short while after insemination, which was via a syringe.
So it was fresh, warm and worked within 2 x months for dp (although took 18 months for me -but I've got some health problems).

I am waiting to find out but interestingly did BBT for the first time this month and temp rose on morning of day 13 so think I may have been trying too late in my cycle (I can't try a lot as donor and I live far apart). I also got my positive opk on morning of day 13 so think the LH is only showing up by the time I have ovulated. All good learning! This month I tried a Stork kit, an Instead cup and a Calpol syringe!

I tried about midnight on day 12 and then again morning of day 13 but temp already up.

Hi @Moo Thanks for asking! AF arrived but have put all my temp data into fertility friend and it does show ovulation as day 12 which (if consistent) means I have been trying too late.

My donor is in the country all this month so we are trying from Day 9 onwards for the first time!!! I'm also getting acupuncture, taking ubiquinol and doing dry January. Really hoping this works. Have had IVF consultation and now starting that process.
