Does anyone know if you close a child maintenance claim is there a way to do it without it notifying the other parent? (I’m the receiving parent) can I close it without him being informed?

And FWIW my ex somehow convinced the CMS he couldn't afford anything despite his business being openly available to view inn Facebook. I still didn't close the claim just in case. And if he ever tried to claim that I didn't let him pay then I can prove the opposite.

To who? I don’t need to prove anything to anyone

The DC. If he decides to pop back up in their lives as adults. I've known it happen. Then the kids blame Mum because "Dad wanted to pay and you didn't let him"

My ex tried telling DC he couldn't afford to live because of how much maintenance he paid. They didn't believe him.

Set up a standing order to send it to a charity if you don’t want it.

I get it’s a small pathetic amount. He must have other kids - does he @TakisBlueHeat to reduce it to that as usually £7 a week when on uc

I make ex pay it as it’s one less bottle of vodka or one less pouch of tabacco

No I don’t care about that, my mum didnt claim maintenance for me and I don’t care and it doesn’t upset me.

Doesn't mean your kids won't.

yes they will notify him, better just to let it be paid. also if your concerned about him contacting you why not just block his number and on all social media x

dunroamingfornow · 30/03/2026 07:57

I get it. However, if you close your claim he will be notified and it might make them adjust any other claims which could mean he has to pay more to others. Any of that could bring trouble to your door. I would let sleeping dogs lie.

He is blocked on everything apart from email which I won’t be blocking as I need to leave one form of communication open so he cannot claim i blocked him so he couldn’t see the kids
