Paypal and joint bank account questions

A massive parcel had just been delivered under ex's name (we still living together 😒😒)...i cant find it on our amazon/ebay/bank account. Ive just remembered that my ex used paypal (and paypal credit) for his business, which is in my name. I dont use it at all and i cant get into his account on the computer because he changed his password since ive asked for the divorce. So god knows what else he been spending on paypal credit??

Joint bank current acc. Its under both of our names but he doesnt put any money in it. It pays 95% of all the bills and mortgage. He got his own business acc that pays the remaining 5%.

How do i take him off the joint bank acc as hes a gambler. Is it something i can go into the bank myself and sort it out?

@Successstory82 i didnt even knew he used my name till a year down the line about the paypal. He created the account about 5 yrs ago. It didnt even across my mind that we were getting a divorce till now 😔

Ok about the joint bank acc. Ive been paying the mortgage in full since September last year (we was forever behind in the mortgage payments for years so i was hoping it wouldve of helped him to relieve that money stress...even though he gambles too...i was stupid!). The rest get paid by me topping up using my money from my business acc into it and a tiny bit from the benefits that we were both claiming for wtc and ctc.

So he created that joint account and fraudulently signed up as a joint holder?

You could open a new current account and close the old one as you can't remove him from the account without him agreeing to it. You don't normally need permission from both to close the account unless that was a feature of the account

I'd go through your credit file and work out exactly what is in your name. Then I'd go through and change/close anything he has access to that you can't remove.

You can remove your name from an account, as well as draining it before hand, if you are not allowed to close it without his say so.

Contact PayPal and say there is an account in your name you've lost access to - I'm sure they will be able to sort.

My STBHX managed to close a joint bank account without my approval. I think it depends on the bank.

@Successstory82 i remembered that this was my own personal current acc before i met my ex. I put his name on it 20 years ago so it became a joint current acc. But atm I'm at my maximum on the overdraft that need to be paid back.

@LittleOwl153 is Experian good for checking my credit file? As ive never used it to check anything.

Also the paypal, as its in my name, his customers pay in (hes self employed) and there is also a paypal credit that comes out of my bank... all i know that is getting paid in is my daughters money for her mobile phone from my bank current acc.

Anything else....i dont know!

He shouldn't have been able to do that.

Unless the account says that 2 people need to sign then its perfectly legal for one person to close a joint account.

It's easier to close the account than to get 1 person removed from the account

Could you close the PayPal account so he can't access it?

Do a year ago you discovered he’d opened a business account 4 years previously using your name.

and what the heck was his reasoning?

@Successstory82 sorry...what i meant is he opened the paypal 5 years ago, i found out 4 years ago he was using my name (i dont know why he used my name??).

Ive been with him for 23 years, married 10 years so its a shared liabilities anyway cos we're married.

It was a business account that he put in your name.

Sounds a bit fraudulent to me to open an account in your name without your knowledge

You could report it to PayPal as identity theft I suppose.

Atm we are still living together, he is being mean to me living at our house as he want me out cos i asked for a divorce cos of his gambling (im not going anywhere as weve got kids too). Ive got 1 statement that i found a couple months ago that it's all mainly his business purchases and our daughters mobile phone contract (i have checked).

I dont know what to do as i want to keep things calm with him by ignoring his little threats and without me being angry at him.

But ive gotta do something about it! 😠

I havent even started the divorce proceeding yet as weve split up last month and im waiting to see if i get help with the fees as im unemployed too for the past 2 weeks.

Were you “employed” by him in the business?

@Successstory82 i helped him out with paperwork and posted the invoices for him for 10 years as i was a sahm till i went back to work in 2015. I never got paid as i wasnt expected too.

No this is not the job that im unemployed from.

I was self employed for 12 months but since then ive ceased the business as it wasnt working out
