Hey Dads....

So, I joined about a week ago, and have had a lot of fun reading some of the forums - and making a few posts. But what's going on with our bit?

Why is there next to no activity here? I think we could learn a thing or two from the ladies on this one. I'm sure we all need support/help/to let off steam/to able to take the piss - or whatever, from time to time.....

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear why it's not used.....

Hello Norn,

I've noticed that as well, I think its because from what I've read if your a man and post anything that a few posters disagree with then there seems to be some really harsh comments. Just have a read through a few of the pages of my post to see what I mean, for the first 50 comments or so everything was my fault and then the views started to become more balance.

Im sure Ill get attacked for this but its just my thoughts.

Yep, some the discussions I've looked at are pretty brutal - particularly in the AIBU section! Wow!!

It just seemed to me that having a section actually specifically for men, would encourage men to chat about, you know, man stuff...

Apparently not.

OK....what's it like watching your baby being born? I think it must be weird, do men enter a 'zone'???

Well, I watched the first (my daughter) being born, and it was awesome! Luckily, the epidural meant that my wife was uncomfortable rather than in agony (!) and I was able to enjoy the moment. The first sight of my daughter was something that will stay with me forever. I thought it might freak me out, but it really didn't

My son was C-section and a very different experience. I wasn't allowed to watch the op, had to sit "north" of a screen and wait. Although, the conscious portion of my wife was also "north" of the screen. It was great to be together. I did nearly pass out though due to the high oxygen content in the room!!!

The funniest part of either was about 30 minutes after my daughter was born, when the midwife said something along the lines of "The bit where you were useful was over about nine months ago, so get out of the way and go home for some sleep"!!! It was very late/early! Picking my new daughter up in the car was the most terrifying drive of my life!

norn - I've been on MN for about 8 years. Rarely posted in Dadsnet. Just no traffic really. Pile in and post everywhere is my motto.

"any number of things", not a huge amount of things. Most things apply pretty much to everybody. You picked out some good examples, but even women can have views on the things you mentioned, particularly the sit/stand debate.

You don't sound like you're a shit-brained cuntychopped wankbadger, but many men have come on to Mumsnet 'balls first' with posts like "As a man I say that cheddar is the one true cheese..." as if the whole man thing gives any argument extra weight.

The term "Ladies" pretty much applies to a type of toilet, and subservient Victorian females with lacy fans and a tendency to swoon all over the place. The women on here tend to be the rough swarfega scented sweary ones with an ability to punch out a rottweiler.

Not surprised the dads area is slow when every post is scrutinized like that.

Reminds me of being on certain Internet forums where if you reveal you're a woman you get a barrage of patronizing sexist crap thrown your way. A parenting website should be better than that.

OK, it appears that "TiggyD" is the answer to the question "Why don't more Dads post stuff around here?"....

well, now I know.

Also, I do refer to my wife, some of her friends, and my mother as Ladies. I do it because I am polite and consider it to be a polite form of address. If you don't like it, that's fine, and frankly I couldn't care less.

Regardless, I don't understand why (when I had tried to actually be positive about some - only some - of the things I've seen posted over the last couple of weeks) you've had to be a twat about it????

The answer to "why don't more Dads post stuff around here" is firstly there aren't many dads, and secondly they post on the other 150 or so boards. Most of the men on here are comfortable talking with women so don't see the need to segregate themselves.

Start a thread on here and if it interests people they'll post.

I'm perfectly comfortable talking with women, but thought with there being a section with the "Dad" bit right there in the title, there may be a little more in the way of Dads chatting... I was only asking.

OP, most of your respondents are men, but men are really in a minority on the site. Those that post a lot, like Beta and Tiggy, float around the various sections depending on interests. Few discussions on MN are specifically about being a parent - there is a Parenting section where you might get more responses to chatting about being a dad. Otherwise Relationships, AIBU and Chat all have a lot going on of interest to all.

Hi, I would honestly ignore any negative posts!! This not only happens here but all over on the different topic sections. You always get the odd few that have nothing better to do than be really negative and make stupid comments.

I think it's a great place for men to post and discuss. It's a shame it's not more used, please don't be put be put off! Smile
