So, I joined about a week ago, and have had a lot of fun reading some of the forums - and making a few posts. But what's going on with our bit?

Why is there next to no activity here? I think we could learn a thing or two from the ladies on this one. I'm sure we all need support/help/to let off steam/to able to take the piss - or whatever, from time to time.....

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear why it's not used.....

Does it? Don't forget, Tiggy is a guy...

For my part, it's such a novelty when a DN thread makes Active that I tend to click and read when it does.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 03/06/2015 06:58

I'm with Yonic :)

Can I ask op if he realised that Tiggy was replying as a fellow cock-and-balls chapster?

Ladies is often frowned upon on here. It's a MN cultural thing. You can use it if you want, but he was just giving you the heads up that it's generally seen as patronising rather than polite. Stick it in a thread title and you're less likely to get a constructive response.

I love having men on MN. But I also love that it's somewhere that it's assumed you're a woman unless you state otherwise.

As a female I think its because of the same reason I don't post on the feminist section. There. Gospel.

As you were chaps.

I think there aren't many discussions that are just dadsnet specific which aren't covered in other sections, and there aren't enough men on the site in general.

Womens 'gossip' and mens 'banter' can be hard to navigate for opposite sexes but just get stuck in and post fairly.

I love it when people post neutrally and instantly posters think its man/woman at fault.

Feminism chat isn't that bad and can open your eyes a bit.

Apologies for the delay in re-appearing..... Been a little busy... And thanks all for the insights.

I'm afraid il have to continue to use Ladies as a polite term. To me somewhere where you piss and shit is just a toilet.....

It's certainly regarded as a 'polite' term by many people, but 'polite' is itself a socially-constructed category. It can range from showing respect to identifying who is part of a an in-group. I believe a lot of second-wave feminists rejected 'ladies' as they saw it being used to a) demand certain standard of behaviour which were centred around being ineffectual and submissive and b) used to mark out 'women' (who didn't count and could be exploited) from 'ladies' (who were under the protection of a man of equivalent class). Doesn't mean anyone using 'ladies' is necessarily a bad person, just a bit of linguistic background.
