What look should we go for in the men's bit? The old gentlemen's club look with the green leather chairs, loads of books and papers and a thick fog everywhere? How about modern black leather and chrome furniture and white everything else? How about the garden shed look with tools, things soaking in oil and hidden porn?

Not much decorating being done is there?

Men!

Pan · 18/01/2011 21:39

hey! You have to size the job up. Get quotes. Have a chat with your buddies. Have a swift drink.....and then check your estimates and needs. Takes time matey.

I think we need to get women in as guest speakers every so often. We need Xenia in to talk about Women In Business. She is my favourite feminist on here. Calm, polite, resolute and full of conviction without ever saying "you're wrong because you are a man."

Pan · 19/01/2011 13:39

You see what happens when we get slack on the door policy? Aggression from the uninvited?
Second the Xenia idea. A challenge to us all.

TechLovingDad · 19/01/2011 14:07

This place needs a bar.

Truckulente · 19/01/2011 14:17

Probably PMT

PMT- Patriarchal male tension.

Truckulente · 19/01/2011 20:47

Right I've decided to crack on with this decorating, to prepare I'm currently watching rugby, France V England 1992 on ESPN, later I'm booking tickets for me and the boy to go and see England V India test match cricket in August. I may have a cup of tea in a minute.

This decorating is hardwork.

Pan · 19/01/2011 21:15

Take a load off, trucky.

I'm doing the bar walls in flushed out cornsilk colour - light, to emphasis the wood, but strong enough to withstand large areas where there are no adornments.
I have sanded the floor and it has come up a natural shade of rose wood, gleamingly so when caught by the sunlight coming through the French windows at the far side of the room. Used a clear varnish.

hope this is okay with everyone.

Have the arsenal/Leeds game on 5live.

UnquietDad · 19/01/2011 22:37

Will there be any 'taupe'?

BelfastBloke · 19/01/2011 22:40

Fuck taupe, will there be Guinness?

Pan · 19/01/2011 22:55

I had taupe in mind for some of the woodwork. In the toilet. I hear it absorbs a splash very neatly.....

Guiness. A fixture, BB!! Nadine has ordered lots of smaller barrels so it doesn't settle too much downstairs. The bar is on the left as you enter, with hand pulled ales and Guiness taps. The mid part is reserved for lagers, and the very end is stocked with spirits ( whiskey focus) and cocktails. The French windows are opposite the entrance, opening onto a large patio for 'summer entertaining'.

BelfastBloke · 19/01/2011 23:01

I approve of whiskey focus.

It all seems to be in hand without me.

I'll be in the bog. I may be some time.

(mumsnetting on my laptop).

Pan · 19/01/2011 23:07

BB, you'll find a small 'swing table' resting against the wall beside the throne so you can pull it out and rest your laptop on it for comfort.

TiggyD · 20/01/2011 09:49

Urinals to be covered in fur to reduce splash?
Ladies loo just in case we have an attractive lady type visitorette?
I'll want decking in the garden and a nice barbecue area for meat. Somewhere to have a nice big fire. Lots of sheds.

Jesus Christ. Decorating a doll house springs to mind. As you were, girlies Grin

Pan · 20/01/2011 13:07

Tiggy - how about a nice brick-enclosed one? Really big one with treble grill.

As you know we have extensive grounds, and so there are a number of plots where we have our own sheds, complete with bits of old sticks, b/band link up, oil tins, bits of garden equipment that are of no use but will not be thrown out, magazine drawers, recently used tools left out on the surfaces, LW radios for listening to the cricket in the manner it should be listened to, and a fridge.

Truckulente · 20/01/2011 19:09

We could get all these kids in who do the chores at home to do the tidying up, or the decorating.

Pan · 20/01/2011 22:57

Kids. Decorating!! Or you insane?

Pan · 20/01/2011 22:59

or are even.

Kids can learn humility by doing the laundry, maybe.

We are recruiting maids for the tidying bit.

Pan · 23/01/2011 11:46

I see we've all been very busy in here.....

Right - the door to the gym is on the right at the end, just before the French windows. Lots of energy drinks, LOADS of lovely warmed fluffy towels, some of those elongating wall - mirrors. Gentle piped music. Lots of well-stuffed benches and chairs for recovery between 'sets'.

We could also put some equipment in as well.

TiggyD · 24/01/2011 12:22

Can somebody sneak into the feminist room and see how they've done that?

OP posts:
BelfastBloke · 24/01/2011 14:18

Speak for yourself, Pan.

I, at least, don't need any "elongating wall-mirrors".
