Preston in 2014 or 2015 - I think he may have raced against your ds?

prettybird · 07/07/2024 19:01

I've checked back: Jake Stewart is one year older that ds, so on ds' 1st outing to the NWYT, they were in the same age group (ds 1st year Youth B, Jake 2nd Year Youth B), so they were technically racing against each other (or rather, ds would have been lapped by him Wink).

They were both at the Isle of Man Youth Tour the following year, but by then Jake Stewart would've been Youth A while ds was still Youth B.

If I went back through the many many photos I took of the races, I might even find one of him Grin

You sent me a photo from the IofM race - but it wasn't Jake, Ive just found it flicking back through.

There you go, your ds has raced with someone now in the tour 😊

It was a very interesting day of racing on stage 9 of the tour and particularly enjoyed the gravel today

prettybird · 07/07/2024 19:56

He's also technically raced against been lapped by Fred Wright and Tom Pidcock at the NWYT Grin

They're all 1999 birthdays, whereas ds is 2000 Wink

MikeRafone · 07/07/2024 20:14

Yes of course, I see Fred Wright has made the gb team in Paris

prettybird · 07/07/2024 21:24

Ds' friends who've made it on to the pro road cycling circuit are Alfie George and Sean Flynn (aka Yoda). Sean is in Team DSM and must recently was in the Tour de Suisse.

Sean made the Vuelta last year, so if he gets selected again this year, I'll have to pick him for my Velogames team Grin

Beninthesortingoffice · 10/07/2024 16:34

I watched today's stage live (well some of it). It was pretty good and the highlights will be worth a watch if you don't know the result

The numbers are very tight at the bottom of the peloton - only a few seconds points separating the bottom five Shock.

I've managed to edge my way back from carrying the lanterne rouge by a whole 4 points but will probably be back there tomorrow as my only sprinter is Cav Hmm

MikeRafone · 10/07/2024 19:33

Another exciting race today, it’s close

prettybird · 11/07/2024 10:25

Bummer, Mørkøv has had to leave the Tour: Covid positive Sad

He'd only just announced that he was definitely retiring, so this was (like Cav) his last Tour. What a sad way to have to end Sad

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/07/2024 11:47

Ohh no - that's a shame.

MrsAvocet · 11/07/2024 12:19

That's a real shame, especially as it is his last Tour too. I wonder if that's why he has not been quite on his usual form?
There seemed to be quite a few riders suffering even more than you might expect in the last couple of days (I was gutted for Fred Wright) so I hope this isn't the first of many sick riders.😥

Pan2 · 12/07/2024 09:57

Well this is a tour that keeps on giving.😀

Am quite pleased with my velogames podium position given not choosing the top 2.
But as we know anyone of us could end up carrying the red light. 😂

MrsAvocet · 12/07/2024 11:30

I forgot to enter a team this year which is probably fortuitous as otherwise I might be blaming myself for several riders misfortune by now. I feel very sorry for Roglic and although he was obviously not going to win bar some disaster befalling one or more of the others I think his absence is bad for the race.😥

prettybird · 12/07/2024 19:59

After watching Ayuso give interviews with the press in close proximity, despite having had to withdraw from the Tour after testing positive for Covid (and starting the Stage Hmm) Shock, what happens if his team member Pog, who's also not been wearing a mask, tests positive Shock

It's not over till it's over Wink

Plasmodesmata · 12/07/2024 22:53

I think Pog said he had Covid just after the Giro and had recovered before the tour, so he's probably unlikely to get it again just yet.

prettybird · 12/07/2024 23:51

You're right - I'd forgotten that. Maybe that's why he's s bit blasé.

MrsAvocet · 13/07/2024 11:14

Tom Pidcock out with Covid now. This is getting a bit concerning. 😥

prettybird · 13/07/2024 11:35

Was this Pog's plan? To infect the others while he had immunity from a recent infection? Wink

Plasmodesmata · 13/07/2024 15:03

I think a Covid party about a month before the tour might have been a wise option.

I think that might have been called the Giro ...

TonTonMacoute · 14/07/2024 19:09

Another astonishing ride from Pogačar today. Vingegaard did so well too, considering his accident and recovery.

Could Pog be the first rider to win all three grand tours in the same year? If anyone can surely he can

Plasmodesmata · 14/07/2024 19:13

Pog said after the Giro he wasn't going for the three. But, if he wins the Tour, would it not be tempting to have a go?
If I was Cav I'd be starting to wonder about that record....

prettybird · 14/07/2024 19:21

Cav did say that to Pog when Pog congratulated him after his 35th win. Grin

MikeRafone · 15/07/2024 07:47

Ive found it hard to believe after this weekend... 3 minutes of that climb and the way he he accelerated away -please tell me this is for real?
