We have watched the West Wing from start to finish, what should be next?

Box sets of TV programmes work well for DH and I, as we are too disorganised to record things, and too exhausted to stay up late and watch a whole film.

The West Wing was great. He is after a string of Top Gear DVDs now, but there is only so much Clarkson I can take. Any recommendations?

I've been watching the West Wing on more4, and love it.

I also prefer box sets, and have got the rest of 24 waiting after a marathon series 1.

NorthernLurker · 24/07/2008 18:47

ER - the first two or three series are fantastic!

Oooh, I've always meant to watch ER. I do like Greys Anatomy but the 2nd series is very poor compared to the first, which we did as a marathon boxset!

megcleary · 24/07/2008 18:50

north and south with patrick swayze was great

peasholme · 24/07/2008 19:12

6 feet under, if you haven't already

24 - I second that. We are on series 4 and totally addicted!!

sfxmum · 24/07/2008 19:18

six feet under
the wire

flowerybeanbag · 24/07/2008 19:22

24

Am addicted.

I heart Jack Bauer.

Am v about the writers strike/Kiefer Sutherlands sojourn in prison delaying new series.

Have watched them all several times.

I've got West Wing to watch, have never seen it, so good to hear people have enjoyed it.

MrsSprat · 24/07/2008 19:22

24
and House

don't 'get' The Wire, despite excellent reviews. Maybe I'm just not street enough .

detoxdiva · 24/07/2008 19:24

24 & prison break

ten10 · 24/07/2008 19:30

another vote for 24

other series which i loved watching (my sky+ was set to all of these)

desperate housewives,

brothers and sisters (written by same fella as west wing)

heroes

gavin and stacey

although i have no idea if there are box sets out yet for any of these.

geekgirl · 24/07/2008 19:42

have you watched House yet? We have just finished the box set of the first 4 seasons - haven't watched anything else really for months (and have both become hypochondriacs in the process )

Alias is also crackingly good - again something we watched from the pilot episode to the finale in one go, so to speak.

And I second Prison Break, particularly seasons 1 & 2.

Lauriefairycake · 24/07/2008 19:44

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

same writer as the best series' of the West Wing - Aaron Sorkin

Canned after only one series

definitely House and stick with Greys Anatomy - the 4th series is the best so far (just finished in US)

HolidaysQueen · 24/07/2008 19:47

Six Feet Under is just wonderful - even wittier/more intelligent scripts than the West Wing. It is my favourite tv series ever and DH and I were really really sad when we finished the final set.

Prison Break and 24 are lots of fun - very intense, edge of the seat stuff but ultimately a bit daft which makes for very enjoyable tv.

Desperate Housewives is a good balance of slapstick and dark humour.

I love box sets!!

llareggub · 24/07/2008 19:48

Some great ideas here. I might have to stop up before our next trip to Cornwall.

maybe a bit of a change for you, and go with some comedy instead? curb your enthusiasm is very watchable in an woody allen meets lucille ball kind of way... but not to be watched if you're a pc kind of person... again great writing/devising...

fridayschild · 28/07/2008 13:25

Fantastic, that should see us through the summer.

Bit squeamish here, I assume none of these medical things you have all recommended actually show much blood and gore?!

Damages with Glenn Close. I know it's only been one series but blardy hell... what a series!

Blandmum · 28/07/2008 13:48

The Sopranos.

I missed it on TV but I'm working my way through the boxed sets. Bad language and violet, plus tit shots, but so well written and acted....only thing that matches up to WW IMHO (do like house though but it is getting too 'samey')

lalaa · 28/07/2008 14:12

Sopranos here too. Started series 1 this time last year and we've nearly finished Series 6 part 1. My sister is in the middle of 24, which i just found a bit exhausting to watch. Six Feet Under is on my list next.

Blandmum · 28/07/2008 14:18

I've just started series 5.

Never got into 24 , tried but it lost me by about hour 6

overthemill · 28/07/2008 14:21

brothers and sisters, er, studio 60, thirtysomething (!), weeds, ally mcbeal,i'm missing northern exposure would love that in a box set, would like recommendations myself!
