on saturday in Bristol, with dh and dd, and Mr Hannon was in fabulous form!!!! Dd and dh even met him as they were sitting outside waiting for the first act to finish (it was really hot in there!), and had a little chat with him (I always miss out on this kind of stuff )
what a beautiful concert, happy dancing crowd, a lot of banter, and plenty of beautiful songs (new stuff and gorgeous old songs like 'When the lights go out all over Europe', Mastermind, Bad Ambassador, Don't look down, Our Mutual Friend...)
Very sad it's all over now

and I know I'll have to keep this bumped as MN isn't exactly full of DC fans!

but Fio, he's written so many more songs far better than that

Lucky you - I love DC and think Neil Hannon is a total genius.

he did National Express as an encore and we all had to twist to it, it was hilarious actually
MegaLegs he certainly is a genius, and such a fantastic performer, and so cute!!!

Lucky you - we would have been at that gig, were it not for the fact that I am 38 weeks pregnant and it wasn't seated! All the bands I want to see are playing right around my due date, it's not fair!

that's a shame twocats, but it was really hot and sweaty in there, you wouldn't have felt very good!

thankyou, in a funny kind of way that makes me feel better! I think dh is very much hoping for a lo with taste like your dd, though...

LiliLaTigresse · 23/10/2006 11:56

DP & me particularly like 'everbody knows that I love you'

esp. the bit about making a small boy cry - makes me laugh every time....

LiliLaTigresse · 23/10/2006 14:07

yes, that's a great line
get the new album, Victory for the Comic Muse, it has some stunning songs ('A Lady of a Certain Age' in particular)

My lovely horse
running through the fields
where are you going
with your fetlocks blowing
in the wind?
I want to shower you with sugar lumps
and ride you over fences
polish your hooves every single day
and bring you to the horse dentist
my lovely horse
you're a poney no more
riding around
with a man on your back
like a train in the night

Marinaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

southeastastra · 27/10/2006 11:55

they are great, i heard them on radio 2 a few months ago, have to get latest album he did a really great acoustic song which was sad have to google the name.

TheDivineLiliLaTigresse · 27/10/2006 11:58

was it a Lady of a Certain Age?
It's a fantastic song, will be the third single ina bout a week's time

Marina · 27/10/2006 12:00

I'm glad one of us saw him at least Lili
Sounds like a wonderful gig
How nice he did Lights, one of my favourite older songs of theirs - and Our Mutual Friend.
Am listening to Victory a lot at the moment but find some of it makes me rather teary - it seems darker, sadder and more regretful somehow. A Lady of a Certain Age and The Light of Day are so touching.
And he speaks good French I'd say, wouldn't you

southeastastra · 27/10/2006 12:02

yes that's the one

TheDivineLiliLaTigresse · 27/10/2006 12:06

Victory is a great album, I love the two songs you mentioned, although I wasn't sure about the Light of Day at first, but now absolutely love it!
He is just amazing in concert, I love it when he speaks a bit of french, very sexy!! When the Lights is an amazing song
Did you know he has recorded a song with the excellent Vincent Delerm, NH sings in French and VD (unfortunate initials) in english, it's on Delerm's new album called Les Piqures d'Araignees, the song is called Favourite Song and it is gorgeous, another acquisition for the library maybe??
He does Our Mutual Friend in a more rock'n roll way, and it sounds good
He also did Prince's Rapsberry Beret, brilliant fun!
we'll have to go to a TDC gig together Marina

TheDivineLiliLaTigresse · 27/10/2006 12:13
