Coming home to Belfast- what NI food should I eat

Taking my DD to Belfast next week for a few days - I’m originally from NI but living abroad now and haven’t been back in over a year.
What are the classic Northern Irish dishes I should make sure to have while I’m there?
I’m thinking Ulster fry, soda bread, afternoon teas and roast dinners!… what else am I forgetting?
Thanks in advance!

A tray bake. And we'll know what side of the fence yer on if you put your toaster in the press. LOL 😊

evtheria · 03/10/2025 18:24

This may just be a coastal thing but fish/seafood chowder. It’s quite uncommon to find it on the menu here in Northern England, even if by the sea, and I always have some if I visit NI (also because it’s better).
Plus an ungodly amount of Taytos.

SpottyAardvark · 03/10/2025 18:33

‘Brown lemonade”? That sounds gross. Lemons are supposed yellow, aren’t they? Not brown?

Sleepthief · 03/10/2025 18:33

Nutty Krust white loaf. I miss Nutty Krust 😢

It’s absolutely lush. Especially if you get it from the Maine Man.

Slimmernow · 03/10/2025 18:39

Cafollas chippy tea and mallow ice

It's made with brown sugar not white, in pubs if you want vodka and lemonade you ask for a vodka and white.
You get red lemonade too, but it's more Ireland than NI
From Wikipedia
In Ireland, red lemonade and brown lemonade are popular varieties alongside uncoloured lemonade (referred to as white lemonade), and they are drunk by themselves as well as in mixed alcoholic drinks. In Ulster in the north of Ireland, brown lemonade is flavoured with brown sugar.[40]

Absolutely a fry, my favourite place for a Fry is Toast on the Cregagh Road.
Also: Pooh Bear ice Cream
A Pasty Supper (my fave is Rollos in Antrim)
Traybakes
Veg Broth with Guinness Wheaten
Stew
Heel of Nutty Crust with real butter. We use Ballyrashane in our house.
Champ
Tea Loaf/Barmbrack/Veda
Tayto sandwich
Yellow Man
Dulse
