DH was watching Roger O' Gorman on the news being interviewed by David Mc Cullough and commented that he came across well.
I, just passing through and not sitting down watching it, let him know about women's right being trampled on - I gave an example very similar to your observation in that shop @Onehorsetown.

My husband thought Richard Boyd Barrett was fantastic on the debate last week 😅 This was based on what he was saying in regards to Palestine which really resonates with Dh.. As I explained to him we have daughters, I explained the dangers of the GRA, the Sphe, how any male can enter female spaces based on how they identify..
It never really came up until now. He voted No /No in March as the wording was too unclear, he voted independents in June but he is now voting Aontú No 1 with me on Fri due to Gender Ideology mainly, not sure what he'll do after but proably the same independents as me in some order. He also got a chance to see Peadar in action last Monday & last night again, that swayed him too.

@Trumped as we discussed before on this thread I was going to vote Aontu but got put off due to their abortion stance. However having just spoken to a woman who insisted that trans women ARE women - even the rapists apparently. I am now going number one Aontu. It’s gone too far. I don’t understand what is going on with the cognitive dissonance of women who insist men can be women. It’s bonkers. I’ve had enough. I don’t think Aontu will do particularly well but it’s all I can do.

Aontú have a very strong leader & are a new party but I think they will do very well. Peadar was on the big debates two weeks in a row which will definitely give them as boost too as he is an excellent speaker.
They are the only party who are really strongly opposing Gender Ideology, the other parties in particular the small let ones are completely captured. They are also in complete opposition to the new sphe curriculum.
In saying that their housing plan "Operation Shamrock" is excellent & Peadar was very strong on last night's immigration debate. Research your local independents too & see who ones are most strong opposed to gender ideology.

Just when things couldn't get any worse for Fine Gael this story drops today 2 days out from the election 😩

It's only half bad?

Good they expelled him from the party. Bad about Naughton

It's good they expelled him but after all the calamaties in the campaignthis is not good timing.
Voters want a robust, sturdy, no scandal party (well not much scandal, they all have something!) & to have confidence in a steady ship.

Soupfactory · 26/11/2024 20:48

@Trumped I admire your passion but realistically majority of sears will go to FF and FG I think.

im just hoping the SD and GP and SF get wiped out.

They will but it's important for us opposed to gender ideology that our side is represented in the Dáil. Even if Aontú get a couple of more seats that's still more support for Peadar & the growth will continue.
We also need our G. C independents getting in. We only need to look at the Barbie Kardashian case to see what the GRA is doing to our country & will do in the future.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 26/11/2024 21:15

@Trumped my DH said exactly the same about Boyd Barrett last week!

DublinFemale · 26/11/2024 21:15

SF will not get wiped out.

I can see it been a rerun of 2020, only the seat count will differ

FF
SF
FG.

DublinFemale · 26/11/2024 21:17

I wouldn't be surprised if (just like June) the big winners are independents.

You're correct. They are definitely gaining momentum especially compared to the locals in June. Matt Carty was very good last night on Upfront, he's an excellent speaker.
It's a shame on they have been captured by the Gender ideology crowd, won't be giving them a preference.

I just can't see how a group of individuals could run the country though. On a local level some independents are fantastic (2 in particular in my area alone are really good) but on a national scale we need cohesion to govern and decide on policies etc and I just can't see how such a mix of independents could deliver on that level.

They couldn't! Even a coalition of main parties with a lot of independents can get messy so is probably the least preferable for a stable government.

We could get a hung Dáil.

mollyfolk · 26/11/2024 22:53

Well the independents include that "independent group" who have a fair new nutty policies.

It will be FG-FF and either SD or Labour.

That's my prediction - ultimately it means that nothing will really change,

I can only hope they will act on the strong mandate have received during this campaign to act on housing. Making housing more affordable rather than pumping money into first time buyers/grants that only seem to push up prices more. (My biggest issue with FG)

@mollyfolk the candidate that supported Conor McGregor really turned me off Independent Ireland, also their farming manifesto seem to raise some very concerning animal rights issues. I'm very disappointed to be honest as I had high hopes for them

Can't get over those who are voting Aontu saying it's the party for women when it's the party who is campaigning against the hard fought access to abortion 🤦‍♀️.

By women I assume you mean biologically born females?
Think of what the suffregates did 100 years ago to ensure us females can vote on Friday.

What type of "woman" would actually vote for parties who lobby for males to be allowed infiltrate female only spaces belonging to little girls, pre teens, teens & adults?
What type of "woman" would actually be OK for males to invade female only sports teams & individual sports.
Certainly not the women the suffregates fought for.

There is lots of support for Aontú from people who are absolutely not OK with all that is listed above & who want the Gender Recognition Act appealed which is what Aontú pledge to do.

No little girl, teen or woman (biological female) should have the comfort, safety & privacy of their female only spaces or sports compromised for the sake of male validation & an ideology. Do female feelings count for nothing?!!!

On Friday we get a chance to put a stop to this literal bolloxology by voting Aontú & like minded independents.

No child in school should have pronouns forced upon them or get in trouble for using the wrong word. Children need to be allowed by children without having this very confusing gender ideology forced upon them.

@Marblesbackagain I don't give a flying fuck who you vote for but many, many people on this island are gender critical & now we have a party we can really get behind as well as many independents.

Thankfully they are unlikely to gain much. I think it is horrific to use the suffragettes in defence of a party happy to remove women's rights.. The hypocrisy is astounding

Dontlletmedownbruce · 26/11/2024 23:52

@Marblesbackagain many people are concerned about the laws around abortion being too liberal. Aontu can't change a referendum obviously, but having a party that takes a more conservative approach could help balance things a bit. If I was voting Aontu this would be a positive for me. I know someone upthread said the opposite, everyone is going to have a different view on this.

Jesus, if they think they're liberal now we are fucked! Women still go to the UK to end terminal pregnancies due to the rigidity of them!

Thankfully they won't get many, he came across as pure ignorant in the debates talking over everyone.
