I have a lot of weight to lose, and reading all the mounjaro/wegovy etc threads on here - can I get one of these prescribed here in Ireland? My BMI is 38.

How would i do it? With regular GP? Online dr?

👋I've done an online consultation with my-bmi.ie to start taking Mountjaro and, before I pop my debit card details into the payment box, has anyone here used them? I've done some due diligence, and they look legit, but I know that scammers get cleverer daily. They seem set up for ROI delivery. Grateful for any insights!

@elizabethdraper just curious re trying HRT - does the doctor think it will help reduce weight? I have gained way too much since hitting perimenopause and have been pondering on HRT but have heard mixed experiences from people.

honeyrider · 14/01/2025 09:41

Some brands of HRT can cause weight gain, others don't affect weight and others may help you feel more normal and improve sleep and energy thus helping lose some weight.

wanttolose hope you don't mind me resurrecting this thread, just wondering how you are getting on? I went to doctor today and asked about it but she said they are not prescribing for just weight loss, not yet anyway, she didn't elaborate if that was just that practice or all. My bmi is about 35.5 and i am willing to pay for it so wasn't a cost issue.

Edited

I lost about a stone on saxenda, and then stop losing. So I tried mounjaro, getting it shipped from uk via addresspal.

Not sure if it didn't like being in the post for that long or I am just remarkably resistant, but I didn't lose a single ounce on mounjaro.

So I have stopped that and went back on saxenda. On week 4 now and nothing yet, but will give it another few weeks, and if nothing is happening I will ask my gp for ozempic. Or possibly try wegovy. Not sure. She anyway wants me to come back in 2 months to see how I am getting on.

Hi all I started Mounjaro back in July 24 and have lost nearly 5 stone since. It took about 6 weeks for me to actually realise it wasn’t a placebo. As I was beginning to wonder. I have had almost no side effects - tiny bit of nausea twice which lasted 10 mins max and also a few times I vomited but each time I knew I would immediately after eating .. cos I basically knew I wasn’t listening to the “you’re full stop eating” voice in my head. I have been getting it via Boots online pharmacy which I brilliant. Not the cheapest but definitely reputable and I get boots points each time. All adds up.

i checked the Terms of Sale and T&Cs of multiple other reputable sites to find a company that didn’t require you to live in the UK. Juniper is one such and they have allowed (as it is not against their rules) for the pen to be delivered to my uk address and then i carry it over in hand luggage to mum once a month.

mum is almost 75 and has lost two stone since September so a lot slower but she is barely mobile. She has had absolutely zero side effects. overall it’s clearly working and she and I are now both on the max dose.

I note that Mounjaro is due to be released in Ireland from March according to a newspaper article I read. Not sure how they will allow it .. via GP only or any other means. Will see.

anyways I know everyone reacts differently to each drug so thought I would add my nothing but praise for Mounjaro. It’s been a game changer.

I should note I have also been getting to the gym twice a week and totally changed my eating habits. And drinking less! I am nearly 49 so no spring chicken.

happy to answer any questions if anyone wants my opinion.

Deadringer · 21/01/2025 21:19

Thanks for the update wanttolose. That's interesting Woodsz, if they bring it in in March I will be first in line. I would love to lose 3 or 4 stone. I have another motive though, my ds is desperately overweight and I would hope that if I do well it might encourage him to try.

Did you use that site? Did it work?

yes, it did. They were very efficient, would definitely recommend. If you're on FB check out Paddy Cunningham from Sligo (Ocean FM presenter), he's done some helpful content about his weight loss journey with Mountjaro.

Awalsh19 · 13/03/2025 21:44

Hi ,
Have you been able to source the injections without prescription.
im in Ireland & would really appreciate it if you had any links for online orders that dont require GP script -Thanks

ClockingOffers · 15/03/2025 09:22

I saw my GP this week and she confirmed that the new guidelines for prescribing the weightless drugs require you to have a high BMI plus an underlying health condition related to excess weight.

So although I’m very overweight, I’ve not developed any health issues yet (!) so she won’t prescribe it for me.

So frustrating! 😤

Thanks for the recommendation, reading with grrat interest! So am I right in saying it's approx 250 a month? I assume it's coming from an Irish pharmacy and avoids customs charges? Have you experienced any supply issues? And most importantly, is the medication working for you?

Deadringer · 15/03/2025 22:20

I think I will give mybmi.ie a go, so sick of being fat.

AmythestBangle · 18/03/2025 11:36

I have been on MJ through mybmi.ie for two and a half months. I have lost two stone. No problems at all and mybmi has been very reliable and easy. The pens arrive quickly and nicely packed in wool with a cool pack. They are also cheaper than some of the others.

Deadringer · 18/03/2025 12:30

AmythestBangle I thought mybmi sent out the mounjoro but at checkout they say you need to have a consultation with your own pharmacy and you actually get it from there. Did you have any issues at the pharmacy end? Thanks

AmythestBangle · 18/03/2025 13:46

No pharmacy, they send it direct by DPD.

Deadringer · 18/03/2025 14:10

Thanks AmythestBangle this is coming up at checkout, I took it to mean that I have to contact a pharmacy, or do they send me a link or something. It mentions a telephone consultation. I didn't want to pay the fee of 109€ until I was sure I was getting a script. Thanks

I just clicked the button to pay mybmi. I had just filled in my weight and height, and waist size, and answered some medical questions, and sent a photo (I took it from the side in my underwear, not a pretty sight but it did the trick). The next day they emailed me to clarify a bit of my medical history, which I did The pen arrived 2 days later at my front door, nicely packaged and cool, together with the needles, wipes and sharps box. Since then I have ordered two more pens, all they wanted was updated weight and waist measurement and again it came within a couple of days. (It is coming from Ireland, not the UK).

They are good at replying to email queries too.

Deadringer · 19/03/2025 18:40

I have ordered so 🤞

AmythestBangle · 20/03/2025 00:22

Good luck! I have found it very easy and I have lost over 20lb so far.

Bop21 · 26/04/2025 17:52

I used my-bmi.ie and would highly recommend both the service and trying mounjaro if you want to lose alot of weight.

Lou4564 · 11/05/2025 10:32

What do you need to prove at the consultation for my BMI? Photo? Thank you! When getting delivered to roi did you choose the pay to pharmacy or pay to mybmi option? Thanks ladies just nervous as I’ve never used that website

Deadringer · 11/05/2025 10:55

Yes you need to upload a photo of yourself. I was confused about the pharmacy thing but you do the consultation with mybmi.ie and opt for delivery, pay for that, then they send you a link to pay the pharmacy separately. The pen with full instructions is delivered within a couple of days. You have to do a consultation every time you need a new pen so it works out at about 253 euro per month which is a lot of money, for me it's worth it as I just can't lose the weight on my own.

Meandmouse · 12/05/2025 19:04

Whatever you do. Do not use Boots and associated healthcare. It has been a complete disaster for me. Thought after the first appointment it would be check ups with Boots but no you need another doctor prescription at €50 every month. Think I will go to mybmi if lots of you are having success with it.

AmythestBangle · 12/05/2025 19:25

Mybmi may possibly not be the cheapest but their service is very good and fast.

KoalaKoKo · 12/05/2025 19:46

I read that some pharmacies in Northern Ireland will ship Mountjaro to the Republic by next day delivery. It is apparently a lot cheaper in NI.
