An era has ended in NI.

Wonder what's going to happen with the border now...

The PUP who are the only party actually linked to loyalist terrorism have no mandate. Unionists rejected them as terrorists. Whereas nationalists have embraced SF.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 22:57

Which of those mentioned as being part of the ulster resistance have ever been convicted of anything and then held a government office?!

TooBigForMyBoots · 03/02/2024 22:58

It is momentous. It demonstrates a change in demographics at a time when the UK is struggling with being a functional country.

I think she and her Deputy, Emma Little-Pengelly will get on well. Sure wasn't Emma's da a gun runner?

TooBigForMyBoots he was arrested in Paris apparently planning to buy arms but was never convicted of anything.

The DUP may have extreme right wing views- but they aren’t terrorists.

They just support and fund them. And always have done.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 23:00

Please evidence this funding the DUP are giving to terrorists as I am sure the Free Presbyterian core would love to know.

Marblessolveeverything · 03/02/2024 23:01

@Janedoe82 if you truly believe there is no blood on the unionists hands so be it. I don't.

I and my family are looking forward to progress, peace and watching the next generation prove history wrong.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 23:02

I know many DUP voters and many SF voters and believe me their views on terrorism are poles apart.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 23:02

Marblessolveeverything i am sure unionism has done things that were wrong- but to compare them to the actual IRA is sick in the head

Gerry Adams was never found guilty of being a member of the IRA.

Gerry Adams was never found guilty of being a member of the IRA.

There’s many things that Gerry wasn’t convicted of.

This is a horrific day. Can’t quite believe it.

I believe Emma changed her name on marriage, but when she began her political career she added her maiden name back in as it was a vote winner. Good old NI.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 23:06

TooBigForMyBoots i meant funding for terrorism, not to run employability programmes. I would suggest you don’t go there as there are plenty of stories about funding the other way too

LaTricoteuseVieux · 03/02/2024 23:07

Sadly @Janedoe82 and many others are bilaterally stuck in 1690 and the 1970s, whilst mostly everyone else is trying to move on from the past to live in the 21st century, and they become more and more infuriated about that.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 23:10

Listen- if it was the SDLP I wouldn’t care. It is the fact it is SF IRA.
It is a horrific day.

Charitydinglerocks · 03/02/2024 23:10

I don’t know why you automatically assume that it’s only the ‘younger generation’ who are voting for SF. Plenty of people who lived through the troubles remember discrimination, gerrymandering, state collusion etc . This day is long overdue.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 23:12

Charitydinglerocks I know MANY republicans who vote for them. Sad thing is they are people who have had shit lives and honestly believe it was ‘the Brits fault’. Who have been brain washed and controlled and segregated for DECADES.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 23:15

People who grew up visiting their dads in prison and having their mothers handed money from bad men they were told were hero’s.
people who grew up with no money as their parents were told by the Catholic Church to have massive families they couldn’t support in tiny houses and then it was ‘the Brits fault’ they had no room and were in poverty.

Charitydinglerocks · 03/02/2024 23:15

My life is certainly not ‘shit’. I can quite capable of making my own decisions.
