An era has ended in NI.

Wonder what's going to happen with the border now...

Yes. Very sad day.

StSwithinsDay · 03/02/2024 21:45

@Janedoe82
Why is it sad?

If you told me in the seventies that this would happen one day I'd never have believed you.

Momentous.

Cluborange666 · 03/02/2024 21:50

Yep. SF are not the ‘good guys’. Plenty of my Catholic friends are not fans. Equ, none of us are fans of the DUP either, mind you…

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 21:52

It isn’t momentous- it is disgusting. They played a PR blinder and have managed to re write history for the younger generation.

Of course it's momentous. People's views on it don't make it not noteworthy.

PaulCostinRIP · 03/02/2024 21:57

Evil woman.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 21:58

Momentous suggests something positive. It isn’t.

StSwithinsDay · 03/02/2024 21:59

have managed to re write history for the younger generation.

Are the younger generation aware of the Civil Rights marches in the 1960s? Do they know that Catholics were not allowed to vote unless they occupied a house?

Marblessolveeverything · 03/02/2024 22:02

Well at least we know ignorance is still alike and kicking.

I am sure she will bring a fresh energy. She can do no worse than what has gone before her.

Whether people want to acknowledge there is a new era and we are trying to move forward.

Interesting to see the different views. While not a Shinner myself, getting the DUP to recognise that they have to engage in order for their government to work . For her personally and for the people who support her , it is a momentous time in history of NI. She seems like a realistic politican , and is not gloating but gracious in victory .

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 22:06

Marblessolveeverything ignorant?? That would imply I don’t understand. Believe me I do.

Look up the family history of the new deputy first minister and figure out who she represents.

Two sides of the same disgusting amoral coin.

But at least we have a government.

Fear of the ROI electorate realising who they are should keep the worst of the SF under control, but what a shame for ROI.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 22:13

To compare the DUP to SF is farcical. SF were set up as the political wing of the IRA and they still have actual IRA terrorists in political roles.
I am well aware who Emma’s father is. But to compare him to the likes of Gerry Adams, Gerry Kelly, Pat Sheehan is a joke.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 22:20

And let’s not forget who is calling the shots in SF

You won't hear me say one good word about SF, but pretending the DUP are somehow morally superior is ridiculous.

The DUP may have extreme right wing views- but they aren’t terrorists.

@Janedoe82 I have personal understanding . Like many my family was impacted by both sides. And the murals are on both sides!

We are in a new era and I like many are moving forward in respect of the past not Inspite of it.

Janedoe82 · 03/02/2024 22:48

Marblessolveeverything tell me which political party has a direct link to the people who caused you trauma??
The thing that angers me is this complete acceptance that SF are grand because the British army did something or the UDA did something. No political party who want to maintain the union has any politician that did these things.

LaTricoteuseVieux · 03/02/2024 22:48

I think they were as bad as each other.

Some people are trying to move on.

Others are enjoying their pallets.
