Thepúca · 25/10/2023 22:16

I've done this before but I think it's nice to compile a list of Irish online shops before Christmas. Nice to give our money to Irish business.
I'll go first.
www.mishnoc.com for beautiful leather goods.
www.cauldrongifts.ie for cool candles and occult stuff.
https://burrenperfumery.com/ for beautiful skincare and perfume.

Lots of amazing boutiques too. Havana is way above my pay grade but maybe the rich Irish mumsnetters would like this.

https://www.havanaboutique.ie/

I'd love to have a few grand to splash in there. Maybe when I win the lotto.

I know a lovely artist. She has an Etsy shop and is on Facebook and Instagram
If you search for Sinead poznanski art. You should find her.
She specialises is drawings of buildings. My Parents got one done of their house and it's really nice.
It's a really nice original present.

Thepúca · 30/10/2023 13:18

@gabsdot45 that sounds like a great idea. There's an Irish company called rudiesandco on etsy too who make funny jewellery.

Another Irish company

Wonderful books and all sorts of stationery etc www.vibesandscribes.ie Vibes and Scribes of Cork City.

Speaking of books I just got Tough Crowd by Graham Linehan and can't recommend it highly enough. Part one is a trip down memory lane for anyone who read Hot Press or was into Irish bands in the 80s 90s. Quite gossipy. Then onto Fr Ted , It Crowd , fascinating about how it was all created. Before his cancellation...

Has started me thinking about presents. Any suggestions on books about Ireland in that time would be most appreciated!

Ta muchly for this. I'm Irish in the UK and it's just easier to get an Irish company to send to Ireland and Europe rather than trying to post it myself.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 02/11/2023 13:56

Hasn't anyone mentioned Avoca?

One of my favourite places in the whole world. I don't need to buy anything, just stand and look then have a scone!

Appreciate all the other links 😊

MaloneMeadow · 04/11/2023 13:38

Seconding Avoca! A food hamper from there is a go to for sending our English relatives

Annasgirl · 04/11/2023 13:56

‘Avoca’ is no longer an Irish company - it was sold to Aramark, a US company. Watch the Netflix documentary ‘13th’ about the US industrial-prison industry and see if you will ever spend money in Avoca again.

Anyway, I came on to add the following Irish companies for great presents and to second Paula Rowan - DH bought me beautiful gloves there some years ago for Christmas.

https://nimblefingers.ie/

Great for toys and books and art supplies and stocking fillers

https://www.voyaseaweedbaths.com/

Beautiful soap; skincare; candles;

Smell divine and based in the West of Ireland.

https://www.foxford.com/

Adore this store - it has an amazing story of someone who brought the old mill back to
life at a time when there were no jobs in the area and in turn created employment in the town.

This thread a a great idea - I plan to use it to source all my presents this year. Thank you - I’ll post more if they come to me.

@Annasgirl Willing to risk it for the food! American industrial prisons are absolutely nothing to do with me or Ireland whatsoever. Avoca is Avoca - personally don’t see the need to boycott and certainly will still happily spend my money there.

Check out https://daughtersofflowers.com/ utterly beautiful skin and hair care handmade in West Cork. It’s a must buy whenever we’re visiting family in Ireland.

Thanks for this thread. I have nothing to offer, sorry, but shamelessly commenting so I can find the thread later when shopping for family in Ireland. Like a PP I'm Irish in the UK but love buying Irish for family.

LadyEloise1 · 04/11/2023 17:54

Brooke and Shoals (Greystones) do great candles with the best "throw".
They really do scent a room.

Thepúca · 04/11/2023 20:19

Love the mention of nimble fingers! I'm 42 but I remember as a child going to Nimble Fingers in Stillorgan.
