Are we allowed discuss ongoing court cases on Mumsnet ?

OP posts:
twinjocks · 18/02/2018 20:38

No - I've seen two threads on this very subject quickly deleted. I wouldn't mind having an ongoing chat about the misogynistic texting between the various male parties the next day - whether they are guilty or innocent I think they are absolute dirtbirds, but the thread will more than likely swerve into deletable territory.

eloisesparkle · 18/02/2018 21:44

Grand so.
Not worth it if it causes problems re the court case.

I didn't see any threads on it. They weren't on Craicnet

Guess we have to wait until the courtcase is over.

KadabrasSpoon · 19/02/2018 07:20

There's a thread in feminism
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3167736-Ulster-rugby-case

eloisesparkle · 19/02/2018 07:48

Thank you

OP posts:

Has it been pulled ?

OP posts:
Maryz · 28/02/2018 17:32

It's still there, eloise. Look under Feminism Chat if the link doesn't work; it's called "Ulster rugby case".

twinjocks, I've been following Frank Greaney's twitter feed, and to be honest, regardless of the verdict, I think they are absolute scumbags and I do hope Ulster and Irish Rugby don't allow them back. Unfortunately it's not against the law to talk about women they way they do, but surely they can't be held up as any sort of role model for young rugby players.

eloisesparkle · 01/03/2018 10:50

Thank you Maryz
I found it.

Did the thread get pulled now? I've been following this case through the thread

eloisesparkle · 06/03/2018 23:19

Yes it was pulled.

Paddy Jackson on the stand right now.

A very unusual move.

Maryz · 07/03/2018 16:40

They didn't exactly grill him, did they?

One rule for the victim, one for the accused I see. He spent half the day telling everyone how wonderful he was, then gets asked half a dozen pleasant questions.

She is grilled for 8 days, her history and character picked to pieces and her underwear and videos of her anatomy shown to the jury.

It hardly seems fair.

curragh · 07/03/2018 17:16

And now he gets to call his character witnesses. I have to say that I don't understand the relevance of character witnesses...surely the case should be decided on the facts and evidence ?!

curragh · 07/03/2018 17:18

I'm not familiar with NI law but will the complainant have to opportunity to give a victim impact statement or equivalent?

MrsDustyBusty · 07/03/2018 17:20

I don't think this could be construed as prejudicial, but in my opinion from reading the reports, he hasn't a twitter of wit.

Dopey eejit.

eloisesparkle · 08/03/2018 15:59

With the amount S O said he drank how could you be still standing ? Shock

OP posts:
curragh · 08/03/2018 16:28

Totally implausible in my opinion

I've been very struck in the last couple of days by the differences in each of the defendants versions of the story...I wont say anything more for fear of having the thread deleted, but it's certainly interesting

I would recommend Francesca Comyns twitter feed for coverage of the case

Was following the other thread & since it's gone been trying to keep up with media reports but find myself feeling so tense about this case. Is it Wednesday coming that the jury starts deliberating?

From the other thread there was an overwhelming consensus that people wouldn't encourage anyone to report a rape after seeing how the victim was treated. I find this so worrying as there isn't really any alternative.

Their thought process is so disgusting in this case It gives me the shivers. Initially was somewhat sympathetic towards Rory Harrison but completely turned on that score

eloisesparkle · 16/03/2018 21:19

When is a verdict expected to be announced ?

OP posts:
honeyrider · 17/03/2018 01:44

I think the prosecution went easy on the defendants. I expected more of a grilling.

The jury are deliberating, apparently judge will only accept a unanimous verdict. Wonder how long it will take for a verdict.
