I'll post the recipe @needastrongone for the fat balls. I made a big slab of it in old tupperware and then cut it up into sections. The birds have found it and are eating it!!
I am also one that expected to travel more @needastrongone and @ArmDimples. Although we are mobile OH lives to work and wont take time off and when he does we don't really travel as he disagrees with flying. I have beautiful coffee table books on travel which I pour over instead.
Oohhh I bet these days your daughter would be the envy of others but shelling eggs at midnight.... Oh bless you.
Welcome @zukinizen just join the fun and enjoy! But I must say that the crisps dry drink that I think @BigSkies2022was resisting a few days back might have to be packed into the picnic basket. I'll be the straws cups.

A spendy one today considering I'm not well. I called in sick today and then bought pre school a gift as they sent out a wish list of toys to help the children learn £16.
£18 for pizza express pizza for tea as I am not cooking when I can't breathe. Oh and £35 for gymnastics classes for the month. Unsure why it's gone up from £28.

Have been watching the blue tits have a wash in the bird bath and now chilling on the sofa watching willy wonka and the chocolate factory. The original. DD has swapped E.T for this. We watch it every day. Did anyone know that the actor who played Charlie didn't appear in any other films and went on to be a vet? If you're going to be in one film....

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/04/2026 19:46

@Frugal25 l absolutely love the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory ❤️. I love it so much that l did know that Charlie became a vet 😂 and never acted again , not surprising for how could he have bettered that . Gene Wilder was simply amazing in it l always cry when Willie Wonka puts his hand over the gobstopper and says
'So shines a good deed in a weary world' 😭 and when they go up in the Wonkervater 😭 your DD has excellent taste in films bless her heart ❤️
Sorry you have been poorly again today bless you 💐 , don't blame you having Pizza Express needs must . Hope you feel better very soon sweetheart 💐

@drspouse oh how brilliant you had that massage worth every penny 👏
Good for you treating yourself to some new clothes and a coffee and a piece of cake good for you 😋
@Lockin26 RATW is one of my faves , this one has been excellent, the contestants are so lovely. I love them all first time l have felt that way in a series . It's so good to see the normal families and people of Turkey being so kind and welcoming to the contestants.
They were just wonderful, l couldn't get over how little they had but were so willing to share with strangers it was very moving 😭❤️
I know exactly what you are saying @chimichangazsuch a wonderful country and people ❤️ you are so right the tourist hot spots don't show the heart of the country .
Absolutely right @DeepFriedCreamEgg l have been so small minded l had no idea. Shame on me 🙄.
I don't blame you re the long handled spoons @Holidaysandchocolate they are just brilliant for getting into those places that the very last bit of Nutella in a 1 kg jar is🤣

You are doing the best thing for you though embrace the other things in life you enjoy 💐
Enjoy the cricket 🏏 😊👏
@ArmDimples l love Jeeves and Wooster .The scrapes & engagements that Bertie gets himself into are just hilarious 😂. I used to listen to the books when l went to bed to get to sleep. l had to stop myself from bursting out laughing and waking everyone up 🤣🤣
Just join in with any old thing @zukinizen the madder the better 🤣
Welcome sweetheart 🤗

Frugal25 · 24/04/2026 20:56

So glad your mum is ok @DirtyGertiefromno30 and fish and chips, delicious!! Wasn't today just gorgeous, enjoy your weekend my love xxx

RumBananaSundae · 24/04/2026 20:58

Two TGTG bags today (£8ish). It was an accident. I reserved one and got a pop up saying something went wrong so did it again and ended up with two. No way I’ll eat it all.

Glad your scan was fine @lifelongfrugaleer. Hope you’re feeling a bit better today and finding time to relax.

My physio is great @DirtyGertiefromno30. He’s private so 24/7. And I trust him. I am sad as I was hoping it was the start of the end but no. Having said that I was told rehab of eight to nine months and I’m at month seven. Now back to thinking about an active holiday next year. I foresee more travel books being purchased. Glad your mum is ok.

I’m rather envious of your massage @drspouse.

Welcome @zukinizen.

Hope you’re on the mend @Frugal25 and that you enjoyed your pizza.

I have many hopes for my long handled spoons. I’ve been using a cocktail stirrer and it is rather hard work. Fancy but hard. Was considering a day as a tourist tomorrow but think I will save things I was planning on doing for my five (yes five) day weekend next weekend. Might just take it easy as I’m planning on trying the gym on Sunday. I’m allowed gentle.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 24/04/2026 21:12

Oh @RumBananaSundae your Physio sounds amazing l don't blame you paying for a good physio, it's an investment in your health and you can't spend money better than on that 👏.
Thank you re my Mum bless you 🤗.
Those TGTG bags are so good though 😋. Can you freeze any of it ? 😊
Having a quiet day tomorrow before gym on Sunday is a good idea , you just look after yourself 🤗

Yesterday was low spend in housekeeping £7 in Lidl, NS in personal budget, high energy expenditure in cleaning house, steps tallied, and big stretch workout to iron out the DOMS.

housekeeping budget down to almost zero after a month in which it covered rising council tax, a new bed sheet and DS’ dental treatment. So I am emptying fridge and pantry in an effort to stave off shopping for another day or two ( although I do need to buy bread and dishwasher tablets today).

I mean, I can dip into the overdraft (and likely will) and no harm will come of it; but these are the small frugal victories that please me!

I have never watched RATW but it sounds brillant - Will check it out.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 25/04/2026 13:27

Good afternoon everyone 🌞
Just come from seeing Mum she was so good today ☺️ ❤️. Beautiful day here sunny and blue skies and 21C unbelievable 😁
@BigSkies2022 you are in for a treat .
RATW , it's excellent. I envy you going to watch it fresh out of the pkt 😁
Same here re the budget this month it's all going up 🙄. Running the pantry and freezer down is a great frugal tried and tested method 👏.
Bought 3 lovely Beach towels from Tesco £27 , honestly they are gorgeous all colours of the rainbow 100cmx 180cms lovely and thick 😊
Hooe everyone has a lovely day 😊

Hi everyone, hope we are all spending some time outside this weekend! I wanted to buy a parasol for the garden but resisted and I'll just go indoors when it's too hot. Or sit under the tree at the end of the gatden instead of the patio. So I feel I've saved £100! Grin

I'm also running down the freezer a bit. It gets so full of bread and half cans of lentils of all things!!

Glad your mum is doing well @DirtyGertiefromno30 also love your username!

I want to participate but don't know what to say. Do I need to love a picnic? I don't have dogs but love dogs

about being frugal, yes we are

See I'm camp anti picnic. I attempted to eat my sushi in a country park the other week and it was awful and I wore more soya sauce than eaten.

The big test if you belong here is. Yorkshire tea. Fan or not?

Welcome :-)

Then welcome pull up a seat

Frugal25 · 25/04/2026 17:34

Ooohhhh yes!!!!! We have another tea fan!!! Maybe we could do a tea picnic??

£65 on hygienist. She said how clean my teeth were, how healthy my gums were. Then proceeded to butcher them for 25 minutes. But they have sparkled all day.
£40 (!?) on cinema tickets for next weekend for me, OH and DD. She saw a trailer for sheep detectives so I thought why not. I doubt she will last the duration but seemed a nice thing to do. Adverts are absolutely working on my daughter. And it's all "I want that. I want that too. Can I have that?" Argh.
Finally feeling better apart from a sniffle. I have caught a different bug every single week this year and have had more sick days in 4 months than the 15 years I've worked at my company. Unsure what's changed other than DD is doing more hours at pre school.
Anyway. Picky tea tonight as we didn't have it the other night. BBQ tomorrow instead of today as OH says it's too hot outside (he doesn't like the heat)

I absolutely love this thread. It's such a nice, supportive and friendly part of the Internet. Like a big hug from a best friend. Xxx

Rainbow1901 · 25/04/2026 18:31

Yes! Yorkshire Tea!!
But don't forget cake too!! Please!! 😋

Lockin26 · 25/04/2026 18:39

Had a busy day, gym classes x 2 this morning then a retirement celebration this afternoon. I ordered a TGTG bag this morning on the back of this thread - Starbucks had a couple left. Hope it's good!

£4.50 TGTG (shall feed back)
£3.80 Diet Coke in town
£12.60 Five Guys. What can I say, I suddenly got so hungry at the retirement party and it was drinks only so I sneaked off to get a burger and shake🍔
£6.30 parking in town.

drspouse · 25/04/2026 19:24

Sorry to say I am not a tea fan unless it's Lapsang Souchong or weak Earl Grey.

£88 for maths tuition for DD (we do get some of DS tuition paid for at least). £10 on snacks for DS and I sent him to get himself a sandwich as he was very well behaved while waiting for me during my boring orchestra rehearsal (I also sometimes treat myself during his guitar lesson!). Ordered DD some cycling leggings with some Vinted balance.
And I bought this for DH as our 22nd wedding anniversary is this week!
Eat up the freezer is going swimmingly. Pork mince today in a stir fry that no Chinese person would recognise but both DCs wolfed it down so I'll take that.
