Blue Light Card...what bargain/s have you got lately?

I was browsing Vinted looking for a long coat. Gave up because of the new weird sizing. So thought I'd look at New Look. Found a few nice coats and with 15% off code I got a new coat for £44. Plus if it doesn't fit can easily take it back. New Look is at our nearest town. I got free click and collect.

Anyone else got a bargain?

Feel free to join the NHS for the benefits of the BLC , they are crying out for carers . So perhaps instead of feeling sorry for yourself coz you can’t save a few quid , change your job and you might see that it ain’t all it’s cracked up to be and actually these people entitled to this benefit do deserve it for the hard work that they do .

I can’t believe how petty some people are sometimes .

No idea's for good websites then.
I hope you don't work for the nhs - your kind nature shines through in this post.

I use my card all the time. In half term Las Iguanas were doing a 40% discount, which was brilliant. We also got a discount on our holiday for next summer and for airport parking. Theatre tickets and attractions like zoos often give money off for it too.

Mrswhiskers87 · 13/11/2025 06:27

I use the body shop discount and the Charlotte Tilbury discount regularly

IwishIhadcheese · 13/11/2025 06:34

I only really use mine on my gym membership because I don’t spend much anywhere else!

Royal Observatory at Greenwich, and the special exhibitions at the national maritime museum for £2 each.

Ooh I didn’t know about this one. Thank you.

I’ve saved a fortune on Skechers for DP.

The discounts did used to be way better before they opened it up to teachers. I think just too many people have them now. They are still worth having though and every saving is a good one.

I use mine most for cinema tickets. Savings cover the cost of the card many times over. Also 10% off at Hotels.com, used that loads. I get Tesco vouchers for 3.5% off grocery shopping. And some shops offer 20% off (maybe my GHDs?) I always check BLC before making a purchase. It’s definitely worth the £4.99!

And it lasts 2 years.

I set up my laptop so that any site I go to tells me if I can get a blc discount. I can’t remember how I did this but it can’t have been difficult

£15 off hotels.com, from a stay I booked for next year, plus Black Friday discount. Never works on holiday inns though.

I'm aware of that - although you can 20% employer pension contributions to that figure making an hourly cost of nearer £15 an hour.

Oh please. If you’re going to come onto a thread to have a moan about public sector workers then at least do your research. The amount of money a public sector employer contributes to an employee’s pension has absolutely no bearing on the amount of pension they will receive. It’s a totally arbitrary figure.

(P.S. I could earn more than double my salary if I left the public sector and went private. But I feel I have an ethical duty to serve/support the public at no cost to themselves. So try not to get grumpy about me saving 36p a day at Starbucks, won’t you?!)

Originally I was just asking a question about discount sites - many sites that don't specifically discount public sector employees are still weighted in their favour. This was a reply to someone like you who got shirty with my question.
Are you insinuating that all private sector workers are un-ethical?
You do understand that all money to pay for the public sector originally comes from the private sector? (And yes I know you pay tax and the public sector buys from the private etc......)
The reason your pension is so good is because your bankrupt employer just dibs into the tax pot when they need a bit of extra cash - a perk not given to private sector firms.
60% of workers are employed by private sector SME's so we're not all working for mega profit multi-nationals either.
I do sometimes wonder why such a thing is made of public sector workers being more worthy than private sector considering that without the lowly private sector workers we wouldn't have a public sector at all.

Yesimmoaningaboutbenefits · 21/11/2025 08:25

15% of a new bike (+ extras) at Halfords. Saved quite a bit.

If you're that jealous of the mere penny savings from BLC you could always retrain as a nurse/police officer/teacher. They are all woefully understaffed.

I'm not jealous - I'm just answering people who think I am.
I got some great tips on voucher sites from the first few replies in answer to my original post. In answer to your post I'm not capable enough to be a nurse/policeman/teacher and I acknowledge this (shame some working in those professions won't do the same). However in my opinion those jobs are not more worthy of a discount than a lower paid factory worker/care worker etc just because their employer is the government. We all contribute to the running of the country after all.

aintnospringchicken · 21/11/2025 09:04

I got £60 off a Jet2 holiday over and above their usual discounts. Got 10% off golf clothing and a golf bag at American golf.
I’ve also used my BLC in the USA in various shops and restaurants eg, 15% off in Under armour and JJ Crew.

It's a shame the nurses/policemen/teachers won't acknowledge what exactly?

not all of them are capable of doing their jobs! Look at the police, arresting people for writing on WhatsApp groups instead of finding real criminals!!

Care workers can get blc. Support workers too.

I'm glad posters have been useful.

Have saved loads on my dog’s food at Pooch and Mutt. At least 30% every time and we order several times a year.
