Blue Light Card...what bargain/s have you got lately?

I was browsing Vinted looking for a long coat. Gave up because of the new weird sizing. So thought I'd look at New Look. Found a few nice coats and with 15% off code I got a new coat for £44. Plus if it doesn't fit can easily take it back. New Look is at our nearest town. I got free click and collect.

Anyone else got a bargain?

Any good tips for where to access discounts for those not entitled to blue light cards?
Many private sector workers get nothing from their employers and are on minimum wage to boot.
Tried a couple of Google search websites but even they seem to favour the public sector.
Find it all very strange since without a thriving private sector there's no money for the public sector at all - as I'm afraid we might find out on 26th Nov.

Are you on Quidco and Topcashback? Those will help a little and sometimes offer additional discounts.

Sign up for your mobile phone company rewards app, these often offer free or reduced price coffees and money off eating out.

I work for the NHS and earn 30p an hour above minimum wage, so it’s not like we’re all raking it in and getting freebies left right and centre!

Pinkybike · 12/11/2025 11:37

I just got £40 off new glasses at vision Express 🤓

Yes a lot people who have a blue light card aren't earning much.

Well that is up to each PRIVATE sector employer to offer their employees benefits or plenty of jobs in the public sector if you fancy it?

I'm aware of that - although you can 20% employer pension contributions to that figure making an hourly cost of nearer £15 an hour.

Private sector can only offer perks it can afford.
Public sector works under its own special circumstances despite being financially insolvent

I suppose thats the point but those on way more than the average can access those discounts xx

£15 an hour is not going into my bank a month. I also won’t be claiming a pension for another 30+ years and the current scheme is nowhere near as good as people like to pretend it is. If you’re so distraught at people being able to get twenty quid off at New Look, why not come and join us with our bags of free cash and massive pensions!

I asked about decent websites for those who don't have blue light cards - not for justification why you think you should have them. I've thanked the posters who came up with great suggestions.

If you’re a blood donor, there’s “We Donate”.

I find that there are discounts attached to NT, British Cycling, English Heritage and YHA membership.

Weird. I’ve not seen you thank anyone.

I've just let mine go it's not as good as it used to be!

I agree, average of 10% from mostly run-of-the - mill retailers. Big whoop. I haven’t bothered renewing.

But not many people know that Apple do an in-store 10% discount for Blue Card holders. That’s pretty decent.

mauvishagain · 12/11/2025 14:53

Royal Observatory at Greenwich, and the special exhibitions at the national maritime museum for £2 each.

LushLemonTart · 12/11/2025 15:01

The BLC costs 4.99. Even if work didn't pay for mine it would be worth getting.

Saved £40 on our holiday (caravan holiday only £350) as it was.
A few years ago when getting our kitchen refurbished saved close to £500 on various bits - hob, counters, oven etc. oh, and a few hundred on carpets!

Remember to ask in shops not listed. There's an outlet shopping centre near me and most there give a discount.

Levi’s do a good BLC discount and I like their jeans.

i work for an emergency service and colleagues say the BLC discounts aren’t as good as they used to be since more organisations are eligible but I haven’t worked there long enough to know.

PinkJ · 13/11/2025 03:38

50% off Pizza Hut delivery pizza and sides.

AnotherVice · 13/11/2025 03:58

I use mine most for cinema tickets. Savings cover the cost of the card many times over. Also 10% off at Hotels.com, used that loads. I get Tesco vouchers for 3.5% off grocery shopping. And some shops offer 20% off (maybe my GHDs?) I always check BLC before making a purchase. It’s definitely worth the £4.99!

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 13/11/2025 04:16

I used their Expedia code of 10% off to book a hotel.

Feel free to join the NHS for the benefits of the BLC , they are crying out for carers . So perhaps instead of feeling sorry for yourself coz you can’t save a few quid , change your job and you might see that it ain’t all it’s cracked up to be and actually these people entitled to this benefit do deserve it for the hard work that they do .

I can’t believe how petty some people are sometimes .
