Oodie Knock-Offs or Just Layering?

Nachtvlinder · 05/10/2023 21:04

Noticed loads of shops now stocking Oodie-types, romper suits etc., and I'm tempted to do away with my pride, and get one. In Primark, saw the Disney ones (Lion King) was £24 which is actually thicker than the rest of them and in Sainsbury's a romper fleecy suit for £20 (I think) which is fairly thick at about 2".

I WFH and last few years have been a struggle to keep warm in an unheated house. (I loathe to put the heating on just for me for too many hours.) I have cashmere jumpers, fingerless gloves, hats and scarves, thermals, bought a £35 electric foot muff that is barely warm enough.

Is it worth get an Oodie/romper suit? I'd look particularly stupid in Teams meetings so I plan to hide the garment with a big scarf.

Got my oodie from amazon 2 years ago.. Best £20 I've ever spent

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/10/2023 21:11

I have a kuddly instead of an Oodie, their reviews are fairly equal. I opted for the kuddly as it's longer .

I have a cheap one I bought from Amazon. It is fine for the mild winter days but no comparison.

Nutellaonall · 05/10/2023 21:14

Love mine. Much easier than a dressing gown. No belt to lose and not as frumpy.

I got a snuggz one.
Much nicer than oodie. And UK based. Not as cheap as the Amazon etc knock offs but with it as I live in mine last winter.

CheersToMe · 05/10/2023 21:16

Do you mean a onesie?
Great idea as it keeps you feet and legs warm, which an oodie doesn't.

TodayForTomorrow · 05/10/2023 21:17

I've got a Primark one from last year and find it really good. Not tried an Oodie so don't know about the comparison but I wore it over a long sleeve tshirt and jogging bottoms usually and it was fine.

Singleandproud · 05/10/2023 21:20

We have a Primark one and a Kudd.ly. Primark was cheaper, is thinner so better in the autumn and has done 2 years but the fleece inside isn't as soft as it once was. Kudd.ly is thicker, softer, warmer and is still as good as new after a year.

I wear it to WFH and whip it off for meetings and put it over my lap.

pollyroo · 05/10/2023 21:33

Sorry not here to comment on the oodie but I do have a kuddly one & I love it.

Just a suggestion to keep warm - I bought an electric heated pad from Amazon, I sit on it, keeps me so warm that I need to turn it on / off / open windows Wink

Nachtvlinder · 05/10/2023 21:39

Thanks for all your quick replies. I'm still thinking. Is the heatpad on a timer/temp. settings, @pollyroo

Costco's Kirkland shearling boots (Ugg knock-offs) were brilliant when I was WFH during Covid and last winter. Better than an electric foot warmer because I could get up and walk around in them. My 'electric foot warmer' was in fact an electric back warmer from the middle of Lidl, that I wrapped around my feet. Very good indeed, but once I had the boots I did as pollyroo and sat on it/placed it on my lap/on my back.

Wool socks and shearling boots, electric pad, layering including fingerless mittens and a flask of tea generally kept me comfortable when sitting still for long periods.

We have knock offs. I tried my dsis branded Oodie and it was way too hot for me.

AuroraForever · 05/10/2023 22:24

We got hooded blankets on Amazon for £12.99 and have had them two years and they’re still as soft and warm as the day we got them. Just about to get them out of storage to wash and dry before winter really sets in this year.

Woahbodyforrrrm · 05/10/2023 22:47

I got my kids the Oodies but got myself one from Costco for about £30. It's plain but just as warm and snuggly as the Oodies. And can be tumble dried (although I do tumble the Oodies on a low heat too)

I really wanted a lovely Rugrats Oodie but couldn't justify the extra money on myself yet the money flew out of my hands for the kids 🙄

Woahbodyforrrrm · 05/10/2023 22:47

And in my opinion Oodies are more convenient as they're so warm and cosy and you don't need to strip off and get freezing while going to the toilet!

fivenonrouses · 05/10/2023 22:50

You can get real Oodies with the label removed on 5poundstuff for 14 pounds (-5 pound voucher) :

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 05/10/2023 23:03

I have a £16 primark one which is amazing, it's so warm.

Really helped me wfh last year.

pollyroo · 06/10/2023 08:55

@Nachtvlinder

It has settings of 1,2 & 3.

3 being the hottest but I never have it on as it s far too hot. I sometimes have it on 2 if I'm a bit chilly but always end up putting it down to 1.

It doesn't have a timer but once it's on it stays on for 2 hours & switches itself off.

It isn't this one I have but Amazon does lots which are very similar. The heat settings should all be very similar as there are health & safety regulations on how hot these appliances can be.

I love mine! It's stopped me heating my whole house whilst I'm working from home. Once the bum bum is very warm from this you won't be cold at all Smile Had mine about 2 years & it's still going strong 💪🏻

pollyroo · 06/10/2023 08:56

Just put ' heat pad' into Amazon & it will bring them all up

Oodie Knock-Offs or Just Layering?
Hurrayforfridays · 06/10/2023 08:58

I have a Matalan knock off one. It's amazing, would definitely recommend. Depends on your work but loads at mine wear them on Teams calls so no need to hide it!

Lavender14 · 06/10/2023 08:59

I have an actual oodie and a primark version and I actually prefer the primark one because the oodie is just so so warm. Would be perfect after cold water swimming, but for just knocking around the house the primark one is more comfortable.

AbsolCatly · 06/10/2023 09:02

Echoing Kudd.ly as better than the knock offs, I bought in the Black Friday sales and got 4 for not much more than what you've seen in the shops so worth it for a family

I also have a back warmer bought to help ease a sore back, 2 mins in the microwave and stays warm for a good hour + and helps keep me toasty

pollyroo · 06/10/2023 09:25

Op I would say the number 3 setting is probably equivalent to sitting on a very hot hot water bottle straight from the kettle Wink

UngratefulOldCabbage · 06/10/2023 13:01

I've just got one from that five pound stuff site linked above. Genuine oodie, labels cut. Same as my daughters original. Flipping bargain!

chipsandpeas · 06/10/2023 13:02

i have a oodie knock off i got on amazon and its perfectly fine and was great last winter for wfh

looking4pup · 06/10/2023 13:04

Got 3 from Amazon about 4 years back. They are just bigger than a jumper though.

Got dds leopard / panda print from next 3 years back. Nice and big.

Got myself a new one from Dunelm last year. Also big.

Charliecatpaws · 06/10/2023 13:19

I had a Primark one for my birthday last year it's great. Also recently purchased an original Oodie, its a bit thicker than the Primark one. Just ordered the one from the link above from fivepoundstuff, so it will be interesting to compare it to my Oodie. Also bought one from Amazon a couple of years ago but it's really thick and very heavy - one of my cats use it as a bed now!
