Car insurance Range Rover

I've got a 2018 Evoque and my insurance this year has tripled. The insurer said they're not insuring them any more due to them being the number one most stolen car. Anyone else heard about this and who did you find to insure you most competitively?

I had a Range Rover Sport until recently. Our insurer wrote to us to say that they now have a blanket policy of not insuring any Range Rovers anymore! As they are being stolen at an alarming rate, they just won’t insure them anymore at all! We shopped around, looked at the insurance quotes and then sold the car pronto! We replaced it with an Audi that doesn’t have keyless entry and the insurance is back at an acceptable level.

Well done for selling it quickly. I imagine the prices of these cars are going to be diving as more and more insurers decline to cover them (and presumably those that still do will charge the earth for it).

Our neighbours have 2 and have put those metal bollard thingies at the end of their driveway after having one of them stolen.

Flipfloppin · 04/10/2023 17:38

Whoops, I’m just about to take delivery of a new one. My insurance is only £100 to change from my current car to this one though. So obviously not everywhere is affected. Also in Berkshire.

Yep, hard to find insurance. I went with Aviva Zero last year. I had to pay for a tracker for a few years as well which is pointless as the thieves pull them straight off. My friend recently had his defender stolen from our busy station car park with cctv. Very brazen.

My RR sport has just died after three months of this year in the garage and thousands of pounds of work (mercifully through the warranty).

I'm sad to see it go but they're such a high maintenance car. I've bought a nice BMW but it's not a patch on my old car. Although I'm hoping to spend a lot less time at the garage.

SantiagoSky · 04/10/2023 21:23

Selling it quickly seems the best course of action here :(

sep135 · 04/10/2023 21:48

I think my car spent more than a year in RR garages in the six years I owned it. The issue is it takes ages to book in as everyone else's are constantly breaking too. And the customer service is usually appalling.

I have felt tempted on occasion to wander round the shiny showroom while I'm there and warn the would-be customers of their likely fate.

It's a shame as they're really nice cars (if magnets for road rage due to being stupidly wide).

AdoraBell · 05/10/2023 17:48

Glad you found a company to insure it OP I was going suggest try a broker.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 06/10/2023 06:35

I know RR have their issues but I love how they drive. I had Porsche Cayenne and couldn’t wait to hand it back.

Friend above has had X5, the Maserati 4x4 and one other Audi I think. In between she always has a RR sport and says other cars she’s had don’t come close to the comfort and drive of a RR.

But RR need to sort out why it’s so easy to steal them.

Imnoonesfool · 06/10/2023 06:39

I live in Berkshire and I own a black evoque, mine was only marginally more expensive this year … £50 ish. My oh has a RR Vogue and his was similar to last year. Let’s hope we don’t have a massive increase next year

Imnoonesfool · 06/10/2023 06:41

Both of ours are insured with Churchill

oiltrader · 06/10/2023 07:28

Is the car leased? Maybe you could end the lease and get one that insurers will insure? x

RRRIPOFF · 06/10/2023 13:04

or rr sport has gone up to £5676 that's with 2 trackers and a crook lock. Adrian Flux was the only one would insure it. my friend was on a waiting list for a new one, 2025 delivery date, called last week to say they could have one asap as so many orders are being cancelled and insurance is ridiculous.

Mat1 · 03/12/2023 22:55

Then your husband does not know what he is talking about and his comment is not useful. I live in Manchester, it's really hard to find insurance for a RR or pay £39,579 for 12 months cover. This is a serious problem that JLR and Insurers are not dealing with in a positive and fast way.

Mat1 · 03/12/2023 22:56

Can you message me who you insure with, thanks..

Mat1 · 03/12/2023 23:00

Neither will CHURCHILL.

Mat1 · 03/12/2023 23:05

What insurance company are you with?

whyamiawakestill · 03/12/2023 23:24

So glad I found this thread, we are old landie 90 owners but about to look at a new defender.

I'll wait for everyone to trade them in at this rate.

JLR do a subscription service called pivotal that covers insurance, doing the maths it works out cheaper than PCP.

sep135 · 04/12/2023 06:35

Aviva insured mine this year. Although I have now sold it and am enjoying not spending a significant amount of time in the LR garage.

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 04/12/2023 06:47

We had this problem with our new Range Rover this year. We ended up having to pay s huge excess in return for a reasonable rate.

And yes, told it's because of the theft rate

I’m going to look at this. Have a new RR sport on order and if can’t get insurance will probably have to cancel also.

ApintofwhatFarageishaving · 04/12/2023 06:59

Ridiculous statement car. Bloke down my road has a year old one but cant afford to put the heating on. Go figure 🤷‍♀️

CMOTDibbler · 04/12/2023 07:46

@whyamiawakestill I have a new Defender (well, three years old) and though my insurance went up quite a bit this year, it isn't awful. Love my Defender.

justanotherparrot · 04/12/2023 08:10

I see this is an ongoing problem for a lot of us and I suspect it'll get worse unless there's a recall for the theft issues being reported.
If their new orders for RR are being cancelled this may prompt some action by JLR.
I ended up paying an extra £70 insurance in November for my Evoque, but we do live in an extremely quiet part of England.
Probably be a different story if we had lived in a city.

That's good to hear.

We use ours for farming, and towing so hopefully they are as tough as JLR say they are.

CMOTDibbler · 04/12/2023 09:04

In the New Defender group I'm on in FB, some people really work theirs hard with no problems. Towing is an absolute pleasure with it for sure
