Blimey batter down the hatches em we've ended up with yellow alerts twice so on the edge both times so far... (NE England).

£12.34 Lidl plus weekly fuel.

DD has gone trick or treating, its quite popular and organised in our village. I've ran out of halloween cupcakes I'd made so sitting in the dark now 🦇

ememem84 · 01/11/2023 08:13

Our gov here are saying it’s going to hit worse than the 1987 storm (which I slept through).

schools closed tomorrow and we’ve been told to stay home from 8pm tonight until Friday unless absolute emergency. Everything bar hospital and emergency services open. And hospital only for emergencies.

downside of island life. Roads from town will be closed from 5pm tonight. There is a very high tide too so flooding is definetly going to happen for some. Luckily we are not on the coast. But still. Garden furniture will be brought inside today. Everything packed away.

This is the situation now

Great news about the bathroom Life. Thank you re the mediator.

Need to take a leaf out of your book em and get my CV out. I’ve been deskilled in my current role and quite a few red flags now too regarding their financial stability. Hope you’ll be OK with the storm.

Thank you Kessie.

Have the first meeting with the mediator tomorrow. Am trying to be open minded but she’s not making it easy. Will go to the office for it so I won’t be by myself.

We have two weather warnings and a flood alert(?). Hoping the water doesn’t get that high.

Have had a few thoughts about Christmas. I might spend some of the gift cards I’ve been saving. It does feel a bit of a waste but I have about 12 days to kill.

Haven’t spent too much. £5.40 on toothpaste and odd bits in Sainsbury and Boots today. Nothing yesterday. Two boxes of holiday shopping have arrived. Am rather fond of the candy pink hiking socks. Running tights are big but I’m too lazy to send them back and they’re not so big they’ll fall off. Haven’t tried the head torch yet.

ememem84 · 01/11/2023 16:52

Holy smokes Batman. I’ve got a “let’s meet for a coffee and a casual chat and I’m bringing a colleague with me” sort of interview on Friday morning. That escalated quickly.

heading home in a bit.

@RumBananaSundae if you want me to look over your cv I’d be more than happy to. Send me a pm.

We are expecting force 12 winds. Up to 97mph. It’s going to be intense!

Happierwithouthim · 01/11/2023 17:31

Good luck with mediator Rum mediation failed for us as my ex is a narcissist but it has to be done here prior to applying for legal aid, which I didn't end up using anyway!

Em best of luck with interview

My workplace is a bit toxic at present, but I like my job and it's near to where I live so I'll stick it out, keep my head down.

I'm expecting to be called out on an end of the month unpaid load, I didn't send it out and I wasn't the one that took an incorrect payment for it, so I'm not going to take any of the blame on board, my superior will be told exactly what happened and if he wants to question my two colleagues involved that's his baby [grr]

lifelongfrugaleer · 01/11/2023 19:05

Grr indeed happier

you should be snapped up em
and you rum

stay safe peeps

itsmeagainagain · 01/11/2023 19:57

where are you @ememem84 ?

Jersey.

which for those of you who haven’t ever visited is usually glorious. Right now it’s taking an absolute shit show of a battering. Supposedly winds are already at 80mph.

itsmeagainagain · 01/11/2023 20:26

@ememem84 oh yikes stay safe!

ememem84 · 01/11/2023 20:30

Will do. We’re all tucked up indoors. Everything that can be moved indoors has been. We now wait it out.

I’ve never seen the red symbol on the weather forecast before.

the wave height bouy measuring thingy in the channel isn’t recording anything so I suspect that’s gone. The sea is very rough. Coast roads are closed. People are reporting sea water on the main roads.

we are lucky. We live on higher ground. No huge trees close enough to cause damage. We are insured. So fingers crossed.

catface is freaking out. I’ve locked her cat flap and she’s on bed with me. She’s shaking. Poor baby. Both kids are now asleep. Hooray.

itsmeagainagain · 02/11/2023 06:50

Morning @ememem84 how are you? Has the storm passed?

ememem84 · 02/11/2023 07:32

Morning!!!!!!

no the storm hasn’t passed. We’re right in the middle of the predicted worst bit. 120mph winds. We’ve so far lost a tree and some roof tiles.

so far island news: 3 in hospital. 40 evacuated from homes. There was supposedly a tornado.

a colleague has lost her roof. One of ds’ friends have lost windows and their chimney just crashed through the roof. Dparents have lost all their fencing. Dsis’ roof has lifted she thinks. There are some amazing pictures. The sheer power of the wind is insane.

on the plus side. My newly planted apple tree sapling is still standing.

Happierwithouthim · 02/11/2023 09:21

Glad you're safe em and what's happened to your sis and dps is repairable.

I was telling people at my meeting last night about what's happening in jersey and they were shocked. We're a committee of 5 who has lost one member this year, will have a replacement in the near future, another member told us last night she's probably emigrating next year Sad

My dm cooked eatstro meal last night of udon noodles with turkey mince, I'll be making it again, you should have seen the kitchen after her, it was like a child had been baking Grin
After that I'd a teams meeting online & then an inperson meeting in a hotel so I got the roulade and a zero zero cider. €13 but I can claim that back and mileage too.

I got paid my expenses this year recently €125.11, there may have been more spent but that's all I'd receipts for. I'm more organised this year, have started a folder on my G drive and am scanning receipts into that.

Today I need to go shopping for more paint and timber flooring. Dm says she will pay for dds room. Ds doesn't want anything changed. I'm hoping he'll change his mind in time, hopefully not before builder has finished!!

ememem84 · 02/11/2023 09:32

So far everyone I know of is all fine and dandy. Damage to houses etc. but repairs are possible.

our work servers are down so I can’t work from home. Oh well.

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/11/2023 10:32

Glad to hear you are safe em. Stuff can be repaired x

itsmeagainagain · 02/11/2023 10:42

@ememem84 glad you are safe was watching it on the news and thought of you.

needastrongoneagain · 02/11/2023 14:49

Afternoon.

Stay safe @ememem84

@MaryGreenhill ❤️❤️

I've dropped off the thread a bit due to life. Spending has gotten a bit out of control too, or it feels like that because we've had the bathroom and cloakroom done and although they were budgeted, and I planned for accessories etc, I've gotten used to not spending.

A few naughtier spends have crept into the shopping, popping into the supermarket and spending £10-15, not much but 2/3 times a week and it adds up. And not needed.

Done a bit of Christmas shopping, well I've bought DS an Oodie 🤣

I'll keep up from now. I'm better posting daily!

Pleased all is okay so far em been watching the news.
Sorry life its a long time since we had those beakers in the house.

Spendy day but mostly in budget:
£180 on Amazon for DDs Christmas wish list. Some of which may be passed to relatives who ask for present ideas, so not all from us. But I wanted to get it sorted out. Big job done.
£89 flooring for DDs room, was on 4 for 3 per pack in B&Q.
£48 Christmas tree at B&Q.
£47 amazon for DDs room.
£40 DH MOT. Somehow it passed with no faults, this was the car written off and bought back as a Cat N write off in June.
£9.80 Starbucks
Need to stick to frugalness for the next four weeks after that!

ememem84 · 03/11/2023 11:08

its a new day here. the wind was up again last night, but "only" gusting at 65mph so nothing to worry about really.

trees are down all over the place, roads are closed, travel is disrupted. the island is starting to clean up. we got incredibly lucky in that the roof tiles which fell narrowly missed landing on our car.

schools are closed again as they haven't been able to really inspect the damage to buildings, so i'm wfh today with the kids here. Dsis popped in though (she's a teacher) and because she's super efficient and had done all her prep work already she came to help the kids with their work. she also took them out for a stomp and a splash in muddy puddles.

on their way back they stopped in coop and brought french bread, salty butter and a rotisserie chicken. so hot chicky sandwiches for lunch! she's a legend.

money wise £60 refunded to me from my insurance company re acupuncture appointment. so that's been thrown against my credit card.
tomorrow morning i have a facial booked, i have a voucher for around £60 so should only be another £20 i have to pay. Extravagant, but a nice treat.

i was meant to have an interview type chat this morning, but due to the weather, we've rainchecked until next week. no rush on this so am going to just see where it goes.

Happierwithouthim · 03/11/2023 14:08

Guys I just read our thread title, we're definitely not as chatty as we once were, into our fifth month of this thread!

life never had cups like these but if I see them anywhere I'll get some.

em well done sis, your lunch sounds lovely

Yesterday I went to Tesco with ds who wanted to buy a tech deck €5.50, they're a collective dinky skateboard for those not in the know! I picked up a caesar salad bowl, a pack of hot smoked salmon fillets and a punnet of cherry tomatoes €11.25, and after feeding myself & dm for lunch all that's left is cherry tomatoes, I also added beetroot and carrot & pumpkin seed salad that I had in the fridge.

I buy vacuum packed beetroot but never use it all before it's gone off, does the jarred stuff taste of vinegar? The price of stuff is just shocking now.

I seem to do best using Dunnes click and collect, €10 off every €50 spent.

We bought laminate flooring for sitting room, dd's room and ds's room, dm paid for dd's. €984 less €350 from dm.

Paint for sitting room, dd's room, ds's room and primer to prime Kallax unit, which is green!!! Paint was 3 for 2, also got 2 tester pots to paint chimney breast €132
€22 on a twin pack of bras for dd
€34.99 on a dress from VILA for her first disco
€9.99 on earrings for me from VILA

Ds was complaining of feeling sick while we were in town after a while he realised he was hungry so I bought him a tesco meal deal which he loves and scoffed!

€50 at beauticians for waxing and brows

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/11/2023 16:22

tech decks are mint. We have loads
