Afternoon. Happy New Year lovely frugal friends. I've read for the last few days but not posted, mainly due to time!

First, wishing us a better 2023 for those that have experienced illness, stress and hardship recently. I certainly hope 2023 is going to be a whole lot better than 2022.

Interesting reading about frugal and life goals too. Here's mine.

Run a bit more than I have been doing.
Drink a bit less than I have been doing (not DJ, I'm not a massive chocolate or sweets fan, a glass of red is my pleasure, especially now but needs to be less).
Drink more water (I'm pretty good anyway but Christmas etc been slacker).
Sit down for a bit every day and leave stuff/jobs.

Frugally
Try to live on my wage.
Chip away at the mortgage
No spend January
Pots of money for next Christmas and a couple of weekends away.
Pots of money for insurance etc.
Menu plan still.

Spends today will be the accessible taxi fare back to the hospital but that's it.

Hot roast beef sandwiches for tea, to use up last nights joint. I'll freeze the rest.

DD still spewing into the toilet after NYE, so probably just me and DS🤣🤣

needastrongoneagain · 01/01/2023 13:57

Oh and a few pounds to lose, but that's just for me and my comfort, I'm pretty skinny anyway but very small too, so it shows.

Happierwithouthim · 01/01/2023 14:17

It's brightened up again, we're going to get moving. Feels like I'm wasting my day with dc but we're all happy.

Gensola · 01/01/2023 14:40

Happy New Year!
my goals:
lose a stone by July (best mate’s wedding and I am a bridesmaid!)
exercise 4 days a week - strength and spin classes
no booze Jan 7 to 17 March 😬
no phones at any meals
read 20 books not for work / studying
pay off all our debt - should just about be possible if DH gets that insurance through, and with my student loan coming to an end soon which means more money in my pay each month

AdoraBell · 01/01/2023 15:44

Happy New Year to all frugaleers.

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 01/01/2023 16:31

Happy New Year everyone Smile
Spends today Morrisons £31, bought 3 stuffed , bacon on top frozen Turkey breasts, were 10.99 down to 3.99 each. Thought that was a good buy. Also an orange & chocolate cheesecake down to 99p from 3.99
Have resisted all the sweets & choc reductions though Smile

NSD. DD and I had a walk for an hour. Took tree and decs down. Ate more chocolate. 😊

Two more days off work. Schools not back here until the 9th so not expecting to be 'back to normal' until then..

Timetoswitch · 01/01/2023 18:35

Happy New Year, frugal friends

CurlsandCurves · 01/01/2023 19:26

Happy new year!

Lazy day here, made a spag Bol for tomorrow. Watched Mary Poppins Returns this afternoon, think DH secretly enjoyed it, lol.

Pizza for tea tonight. Then tomorrow it’s a short bank holiday shift for me, DH and DS2 are going to watch football. DS1 will be finishing up college work before he starts back at work on Tuesday.

@kessiebird and anyone else with kids, hasn’t this holiday gone on forever? They’ve had pretty much 3 weeks off which is not the norm. DS1 is back on the 10th, never known it to be this late.

kessiebird · 01/01/2023 19:49

curls yes! DS finished college on the 19th so almost three weeks off. DD on the 23rd so week 2 just starting, last Friday feels a month ago! We've had to make some kind of plan for the next week as she's missing the social side of school. Our local clip and climb is offering twilight sessions for £10 (normally about £17) so about to book that for tomorrow.

ememem84 · 01/01/2023 21:26

half I don’t think diets and that all or nothing mentality help anyone actually. For me it’s about changing habits. Small goals. Baby steps. change the mindset. Which is so hard!!!

started my day with a mini cinnamon pastry. An apple and some grapes. Have drunk two huge glasses of water and taken my multivitamin. So that’s a start.

have also done two loads of laundry.

was meant to get up early for a run this morning. But slept until after 8 (we all did)

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/01/2023 08:13

I need milk today and will take me Amazon return to the garage, no idea how much milk it’ Is £2 ish ( milk man usually delivers) petrol will be £50

Morning.

Our decorations were down this weekend too kessie, but not in the loft yet (need DS to do that). It was a relief in truth!

Don't need anything today so should be a NSD.

Having a relatively lazy morning, menu and money planning, easy household chores, menu planning and cleaning my car (it's grim).

Going to use the One Pot, Pan, Planet for menu planning.

  • saag aloo shepherds pie.
  • preserved lemon and herb baked orzo
  • halloumi, broccoli and chickpea bake
  • quick squash lasagne
  • carrot soup with tahini and rosemary
  • cauliflower and ginger soup with cashews
  • smoked paprika pasta bake.

I've got the ingredients in for all of these dishes, so will work my way through these.

Wolfcub · 02/01/2023 08:43

Well my morning has culminated in me being covered in dog 💩. Not the start to the day I needed to be honest.

Today will be clearing out the fridge and house if anything that needs binning and making a dint in the remaining cheese

needastrongoneagain · 02/01/2023 08:57

Oh no wolf, poorly dog or burst poo bag (had both in my time....).

Wolfcub · 02/01/2023 09:00

Neither Need. He'd stepped in 💩 with his bandaged leg so the protective sock was covered in what can only be described as a cow pats worth, I couldn't see it so when I went to remove the gaffer tape from the sock and rip the sock off poonami!

needastrongoneagain · 02/01/2023 09:02

Oh lord!!!! If it makes you feel less alone ddog1 ate some of the human variety a couple of weeks ago....DD had to deal with that particular incident 🤢🤢🤢

Gensola · 02/01/2023 09:18

need I’ve made the saag aloo pie and it’s absolutely delicious and also freezes really well. I am planning to get another Anna jones book when I get home from hols but haven’t decided which one yet.

Hello all. Great to read updates and inspiring goals for 2023. Have been mulling over mine and wriitng them donw, and will share, but DMum is getting worse and will be taken to hospital today, after further assessment by the rapid response unit this morning. So I am going over with DB to divvy up the sitting with dad/catching up with mum in hospital today. And then take it from there. About to find out whether the NHS chaos being reported is affecting our local services here.

lifelongfrugaleer · 02/01/2023 13:15

Sorry to hear that big , focus on that and the goals will come after

It's brightened up again, we're going to get moving. Feels like I'm wasting my day with dc but we're all happy.

Went to the shop but it was closed so yesterday was a NSD put the child benefit against my cc, tried to lodge cash towards it at atm but it was out of order, I'll print a payment slip at work tomo & lodge at post office on Thurs instead.

Just heading into Aldi for milk & food for back to work & school, and any yellow stickers I think I'll use!
