I can’t believe that butter now has a security tag. The price is eye watering

Aldi’s own brand salted and unsalted was still £2 yesterday. In Asda it was £2.15. I fear other stores will be following suit if they haven’t already. I don’t need any more right now but will check the price in Lidl when I go there tomorrow

even our village shop has branded butter for £1.99. However, it is a pain to spread when straight out of the fridge, but in the summer it's too warm to keep it on the worktop. I do use spreadable "butter" in the summer, but real butter in Autumn/Winter

How many of these posts, everyone already knows Lurpak has security tag on. You can get real butter for 2 quid.

Well, I didn't.

@Erica56 buy proper butter.

I must look around though as 'my' butter has gone up significantly at 'my' supermarket. £2.30 last week.

@EmmaGrundyForPM I cut off a piece & put it in a butter dish & it's fine in the summer for a day or two.

Butter is fine at room temp even in the summer. I've always left my butter dish out year round. It takes us about a week to go through and it's always been fine. No need for fake spreadable butter

500g of salted butter from M&S is £3.85 on Ocado, i think it's possibly a bit cheaper in store.

ducktape · 10/11/2022 18:41

Agree! my family goes through a pound block of butter each week. last week I was really shocked to find tesco's was now £3.99 (but also a 500g block now and not 454g for some reason), local NI brands are £4.75 😮

real Butter lasts practically forever. We have taken to stocking up whenever there is a really good sale. It also
can be frozen.

We keep a small amount in a butter dish on the countertop. We used to use a butter bell when we lived in a warmer area.

It was 2 quid on 20th of October. The cheapest now is 2.15, although people say you can buy for less than 2 quid in marks.

In lidl and asda 2.15. Asda had anchor on offer for 2 quid and all was gone before the end of day. Sad times.

honiedparsnip · 11/11/2022 08:12

My local shop has put security tags on the marmite

BettySundaes · 11/11/2022 10:13

Lidl's in now at £2.15 - on holiday for a couple of weeks and it jumped up 16p!
