Has anyone tried the Octopus crystal ball toggle?

I did mine it's predicting £800 for January. Ugh! Insane

OP posts:
Lolololololol · 04/09/2022 20:21

Mines predicting £912 😭

DelilahBucket · 04/09/2022 20:22

Yeah and then I got very scared and closed the page. £560 for January for us. This January we were paying £87 and our usage was about £120. Not sure where anyone could magic £440 extra from.

nevermindthebollox · 04/09/2022 20:38

I have and got scared and fixed my rate, and now not sure I've done the right thing!! Currently paying £200 on flexi, now fixed and DD will be £380 Confused I just hope
I build a lot of credit by not using too much!

Ilikewinter · 04/09/2022 20:42

Yep mines £677 for Jan, £500 + Feb and March then tapers off to £200 + to summer.

Currently we pay DD £167pm so expecting a massive increase 😥

Chakraleaf · 04/09/2022 20:46

Where is this money meant to come from? People don't just have 800+ extra

Hugasauras · 04/09/2022 21:02

£800 for Jan here too!

Forpoxsake · 04/09/2022 21:11

Where on the octopus site did you find it?
I’m with them but on prepay

Sporty2022 · 04/09/2022 21:18

Surely the government are going to have to come up with a solution? For Christs sake people on low or modest incomes can’t afford ridiculous payments such as £500 or £600 per month for energy..

Im on a direct debit meter; its just below my balance when i log into my octopus account.

NewBootsAndRanty · 04/09/2022 21:31

It's predicting £290 for this coming January, and £137 useage for August 2023.
Do not like.

RoseHarper · 04/09/2022 21:36

I found it via a link on Twitter

ivykaty44 · 04/09/2022 21:39

£400 for January & £444 February

£136 for summer months

I gave weekly reading all last winter, so technically should be accurate

NewBootsAndRanty · 04/09/2022 21:43

Looks like it's only for direct debit customers.

Puffincrossing · 04/09/2022 21:50

Just over £800 for us too. Have been paying £250 a month to build up credit to prepare for rises. Crystal ball says I'll still be in debt by the end of January so Fuck knows how I'll pay the £725 I'll owe in February

Thatboymum · 04/09/2022 21:54

It’s predicted mine increases from the current £150 a month to £500 pm from October then £699 in January and then by early summer down to £200 , that’s basically like a second mortgage to me I am so so concerned about it I don’t know how people will cope

knackeredagain · 04/09/2022 22:04

My actual payments are set to stay around the same but it will go up and down drastically. I’ve been building up credit over summer and it will all be used over winter, but in terms of what I will be paying, it looks like it’s fairly stable

FruitPastilleNut · 05/09/2022 00:22

Mine is over £800 combined for Jan - £650 gas and £160 electric (fixed rate for electric).

MakingNBaking · 05/09/2022 05:51

£1043 for January here.

UserError012345 · 05/09/2022 07:42

Mine is actually lower for some reason. Next month £275 and then November onwards is £207 per month till April. Confusing.

ShowLess · 05/09/2022 07:46

My January prediction is £1,466.97!

We didn’t live in this house last winter though so my only hope is that it’s going off the previous owner’s consumption?!

Summersdreaming · 05/09/2022 07:54

It's way out for me. It says August 22 usage £201, my usage to 25th Aug was £110, so I'm not making any decisions based on it.

I looked at it last month and a July was way higher than what I actually used.

You would think a prediction tool would use the correct figures for past months as a starting point, not a made up number to scare people into increasing their dd.

This is because Octopus are taking £66 a month off your DD between Oct and March for the £400 government fuel refund

Batmanandrabbit · 05/09/2022 12:11

I set up a fixed rate with Octopus on Friday which fell within Martin Lewis’ ‘worth considering’ band. It is higher than the Oct cap but lower than the Jan cap.

I am going to wait and see what the government says this week and if it turns out that I am better off on my current variable rate (with bulb) then I will use the 14 day cooling off period to cancel.

i don’t usually chop and change like this but I got really spooked by the Jan and April predictions from Which…

Noseylittlemoo · 05/09/2022 12:42

My direct debit until December 2021 was £57 per month. When my tariff ended, they suggested fixing at either £152 or £169 per month. I calculated my spend at the higher rate at the time and worked out my average was around £112. So I didn't do anything and changed my DD to £120. Now the crystal ball suggests I'll be £2.2k in debt by July next year on these payments! I'll apparently need to up to over £300 per month to avoid debt . Scary

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 05/09/2022 20:56

Advice please - I’m with M&S energy, which is linked to Octopus. My DD has been £70pm with a steady credit of about £180. My gas usage isn’t massive, I tend to just heat the room that I’m in and use Hive which helps. Annual gas usage estimated at 3760kwh and electric at 2511kwh. I’m hoping to cut down on electric bill (I already use air fryer instead of oven, only take showers, never use tumble dryer, and plan to make a big flask of tea to drink during the day instead of boiling kettle umpteen times)

my crystal ball projection is attached along with quote for a fix. I’m not sure about fixing though? I had decided that I’ll probably need to put £300pm aside for energy bills anyway, but for a whole year? What do people think.
