ivykaty44 · 24/12/2021 21:06

anyone up for a no spend January?

just the normal utilities, food shopping and transport costs

then put the purse/wallet away and don't spend till February

a good way to rebalance the balance after xmas

I’m not doing very well at all! We had a Covid Xmas so there wasn’t much to do apart from sit on the internet and splurge and now all the purchases are in the process of being deliveredBlush Nothing too extreme, extra fancy hay/treats for the rabbits and stocking up on some toiletries for me. Aside from that, I am trying to empty the food stores a bit and introduce more vegetarian meals - I made a quorn mince shepherds pie last night that saved a couple of £. The kids didn’t notice it wasn’t beef until I told themGrin

I'd just watch the adjusted gas/electric bill. Last month British had told me to reduce my payment by £10 per month (I didn't) this month they told me to increase it by £29 a month

ancientgran · 05/01/2022 13:34

My gas and electricity are from Octopus Energy. They are really good, I can input a reading anytime and it tells me what that comes to and if I am in credit or debit. Did it yesterday and I am £3.52 in credit so that will take me a long way I'm sure.

BigSkies22 · 05/01/2022 14:42

@TabithaTittlemouse - did you make it to yoga with Adrienne yesterday? I am feeling it! In a good way. I like her little comments, - 'Rad', 'You're beautiful!'.

BigSkies22 · 05/01/2022 17:01

£4.60 today on kitchen roll and wipes from the Co-op. Seemed a bit expensive, but I'm holding off going to Aldi until tomorrow, or possibly Friday.

Lunch - lentil and coconut soup - ingredients all from the store cupboard.
Dinner will be macaroni cheese and last green stuff in the fridge.

Last of the christmas decs down today and have had a good hoover and dust through. Looking forward to getting some daffodils in the house - they usually start appearing in the supermarkets in January. They count as essentials at this time of year in my book!

We work from home and the kettle is permanently on

this might b e better in the long run?

@ivykaty44 I really like that, though Dh would not be happy. He complains that we have too many gadgets. I bought the dc’s a soda stream at Christmas as they are costing me a fortune in Pepsi max. He wasn’t pleased!

£46.98 on shoes for ds3. I could have done without that! However when I checked, he has had his (now falling apart) current pair since November 2020. Unsurprisingly I have ordered the same ones again.

That all my spends for today.

gracedentsleftbumcheek · 05/01/2022 17:35

@BigSkies22 - when I was buying milk on Monday I noticed they had mini eggs in the shop —also a sign of spring Grin

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 05/01/2022 17:59

£5.25 on breakfast at the gym today. Total January spend so far £18.15

specialsauce · 05/01/2022 18:10

5th Day of zero spend too.

Not spending is helping me focus on decluttering the house. 4 kitchen drawers and 2 kitchen cupboards done today and under DS's bed while he was at school. I have two empty drawer in the kitchen now - unheard of!

RestingStitchFace · 05/01/2022 18:15

I'm in. (So long as I can still have my daily packet of Frazzles from the Coop. No sense in torturing myself! Grin)

RestingStitchFace · 05/01/2022 18:16

I'm also thinking of clearing out clutter and popping a few bits on Vinted. Maybe claw back some cash. Also have 3 or 4 scratchcards to redeem.

Woodlandarchitect · 05/01/2022 18:29

Today turned into a NSD! And my total eBay sold amount is now on £75! Smile

Startagaintoday · 05/01/2022 18:31

Petrol and a sneaky packet of winegums. 😁

Thelongdarkteatime · 05/01/2022 18:33

Zero spend day today (am aiming for 16 in the month) so that is day 2. Looking at having a quiet evening and an early night- all three dc up at different points last night and coupled with a 7am start at work, I’m shattered!

chimichangaz · 05/01/2022 18:46

Spent £3.20 on postage today to return an unsuitable Christmas present. So I'll get a refund of about £20; still begrudge paying the postage to return it though.

Feeling quite pleased with progress so far, although I need to pull my finger out and sell the stuff I've got put aside from decluttering.

For me, it's more about being mindful than not spending at all - so considering what I've already got in the cupboard rather than buying more, not buying stuff immediately (looking at you, Amazon app 👀) but thinking about it for at least 24 hours. Hopefully I will have built up a habit by the end of the month and continue with it.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 05/01/2022 18:54

I always think January is a bit of a shit month (in general) but also for selling stuff. Nobody has money to spend. But well done if you're managing to get rid of stuff and make a profit.

me as well - and the bonus is I keep finding money!

I also put up some pictures today, been meaning to do this for a while but was deliberating for 12 month where to put them all. Finally came up with plan

went into the garage and search a bit and was able to find 3 packets of picture hooks - so money saved there and a trip out in the cold on the bike to fetch picture hooks

Woodlandarchitect · 05/01/2022 19:47

@Invasionofthegutsnatchers I guess it is! I have no idea how I’m managing to sell anything. I’m pretty pleased though. Still in shock about my hours being slashed at work so I’m applying for other roles and have 2 interviews lined up

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 05/01/2022 19:58

Well done!

Gemster19 · 05/01/2022 20:08

4x NSDs on the bounce for me - isolation until my PCR came back (negative - yay!) definitely helped!

Much needed nail appt tomorrow to get the Christmas sparkly stuff off, but I'm ok with that as expect this will be the last for a while as sure I won't have time once baby arrives!

I may even consider it cancelled out as I'm due an eye test which work usually provide a voucher for but it hadn't arrived in time for my original appt so I was expecting to pay for it myself. Pushed it back whilst I was in isolation so will def have it for the appt now 👍🏼.

TabithaTittlemouse · 05/01/2022 21:21

@BigSkies22 no I missed yesterday and today! Not doing very well with that!

No spend day here. I’ve been at work all day.

MakeUsACuppa · 05/01/2022 21:28

NSD from a frivolous point of view, I did buy petrol but I am classing that as a necessity.
