If you have turned your finances around and learned to live frugally, HOW??

How have you done it??

I was made bankrupt this week. I got my first credit card at eighteen and I've been living above my means my entire adult life. I try to budget and save and I get nowhere at all. I don't seem to have an "off" switch when it comes to self-sabotage.

If you have successfully turned your spending habits around completely, please tell me how you've done it, and where to start.

Hi OP I have a copy of the book makingahome recommended - Simplicity Parenting. I'm happy to send you it.

Looking at Amazon, there are a few simplicity parenting books? Can anyone tell me which is the right one please? It's an approach I'm looking into as my son has issues with getting overwhelmed (Asperger's)

Bring your children with you on your journey to freedom from debt. Be frank with them & tell them that you are not now able to buy -toys, lessons, presents, whatever. It is good to teach children about money, living within your means, etc, just as you would teach them manners.
As for external pressures from other mums, family, etc, to spend on D.C., ignore, if possible.
Learn to say “I cannot afford this now” and repeat, over & over.

Little Dorrit i'm seconding joining us on the Frugaleers thread Dont worry that some of us seem to spend also ... we are all on the frugal trail and making the best of what we have ..

I also second YNAB it really helped me get out of debt ..

Also look at the ''money' threads and read TalkinPeace's contributions She is a financial whizz! especially about getting out of credit card debt
