What food/household items will you not compromise on?

Our grocery shop has started creeping up again. Today is 25th May and we have had 20 separate trips to the shops (mostly Tesco) and very few trips have been under €20.

We do use Lidl for a big shop but need to swap more things. At the moment we still use brand name mayonnaise, dry cat food, beans, tomato sauce & washing up liquid.

Is the Lidl version just as good? Is there anything you WOULDNT swap?

Tried Aldi butter instead of Lurpak and it is horrible and greasy.

Everything else I'll try any brand or own brand, but those are the ones I've tried to compromise on and just can't, nothing is as good!

Tetley or Pg tips tea bags
butter, I get flora buttery or lurpak
I shop at morrisons and love pretty much all of their own brand stuff apart from the above, just can't compromise on those.

Tetley teabags, Warburton's white toastie loaf, real butter (margarine is the work of the devil), Coca Cola and fresh fruit juice. The from concentrate juice is NOT the same thing. It tastes like diluting juice/cordial/squash. Heinz beans only too.
Other than that I'm happy to have various different generic brands. I did find that cheaper tinned tomatoes - which I use for a thousand different meals - are not as tasty as Napolina brand which cost a lot. It's a sacrifice I can make however but if Napolina's are on sale I'll buy a good two dozen cans!

I did try to shop at Aldi and Lidl but found that it wasn't a saving at all from Tesco as the fresh stuff went off far too fast. For a family of 5 (the kids eat their body weight though!) we spend £220 a month at Tesco and maybe £200 buying daily stuff in the local shops.

We successfully swapped Lurpack for Buttersoft (Sainsbury's own)

Oh and free range eggs only. There is NO justifiable cause for any person to buy eggs from caged hens. The price difference is hardly worth even taking into account.

Agree that eggs have to be free range but you can save money buying a mixed weight box

Have not swapped cat food as they are on a special diet. We have proper coffee at weekends in a stovetop mocha pot. I have my one shower gel as I have ezcema and would not compromize on hair products - doing curly girl.

But beyond that it's more or less all Lidl.

Higher welfare meat, fish, eggs etc

Fair trade or better coffee, tea, bananas, sugar, chocolate.

I buy Waitrose baked beans now in preference to Heinz, as I found the Heinz are way too watery these days.

I love Earl Grey tea but find Twinnings out of my price range. Sainsburys Taste the Difference EG teabags are just as good imo.

oh dear, quite a lot actually but in my defence I try to buy offers for all of the above.

Method Laundry detergent, though try to buy it when Tesco has it for £5 rather than £9.

We have swapped most brands for shops own.

Lurpak was the last to go, swapped for Aldi Norpak (wouldn't swap back now either even if Norpak was more expensive!)

Will not compromise on tyres. We always buy the best.

Humanely killed meat is a delusional idea.

Free range eggs, the male chicks are killed in the cheapest possible way and what do you think happens to the female chickens after they stop laying fast enough?

They don't go to a retirement farm!

Eat meat eggs dairy whatever but don't think you can do it with a clear conscience because you buy expensive pain and death products.
