On a tight budget, who's your energy supplier?

To those on a right budget, who's your energy supplier, and can you recommend them? We used to be with Southern Electric, but went with EDF last year and our bills are £20 pm less. You can set up an online account, post regular readings (they give you an update within 48 hours so you get no surprises), they reduced our dd after seven months and have just given us a refund of £97 which was on the account at the end of the year. So I do recommend them.

Having said the above, money is going to be right over the next couple of years and look to save any money we can, hence the reason for my question.

Use the MoneysavingExpert Energy Club, they'll do a price comparison based on your needs (and if you buy through them you get £30 cashback).
It'll also tell you their customer rating.

I was with Co-op and eventhough they were cheap I would never go back to them. Their online account is a real mess you can't enter meter readings, check your bill or statements. They don't readjust your DD based on your usage. They rarely answer the phone when you call. The Twitter account is run by a robot. When I finally did get through to someone on the phone they said that co-op wasn't very good :/

Have been with NPower for a few months now, their website, app and phone customer have been excellent so far.

it isn't that easy; prices vary with area, whether you are dual fuel and even how much you use.

you need to do a comparison, look at unit prices and standing charges and send a reading every month.

MSE do have a monitoring tool which can help.

stay away from tiny suppliers who don't generate and Spark Energy

I've just changed via Uswitch to First Utility for dual fuel.
Saving £77 a month.
I was with southern Electric, or rather ex h was. I have now taken over bills and spent hours on comparison websites.
I like the fact I can submit a monthly reading online so feel in complete control

Were with OVO ATM. Had no problems since switching to them.

But everytime our deal is up we switch so have been through e-on, EDF and now ovo in the past 5 yr

We're with Coop through the MSE thing. I haven't had a problem with them. I email my meter readings every month for a points bonus and contact them by email if I have a query - usually get it resolved within 24 hours. Have never tried logging in online with them or twittering them, and don't do telephones if I can help it. But really I just go with price and change regularly. No one is cheapest for long and the easiest way to adjust your payment/claim your credit balance back is to switch suppliers. And I like a cashback bonus.

We're with Ovo, no complaints so far (we've been with them for just over a year).

I have just moved to BULB. It took less than 4 weeks to move and everything was so straightforward. I hated trying to get Scottish Power for anything but these guys seem to be easy to speak to and very helpful. This is affordable renewable energy that ticks all the right boxes for me. Plus NO EXIT FEES :-)

I'm with Ebico and they're great if you have low usage - there's no standing charge for supply. It works for me as I found I was paying up to a third of my monthly bill in standing charges previously. Customer service is very good too, although apparently there have been some hitches when they changed to Robin Hood Energy as their new supply partner.

Their unit rates are very high to compensate. Do a spreadsheet and check the best deal for you.

We're with Octopus Energy. They're the only company I've ever come across that are competent in every way and were the cheapest when we joined them. I'm contemplating staying with them when our deal is up in July.

EDF. My bills are low and I'll not risk changing again as my experience was a nightmare.

We saved by switching to ecotricity

Their customer service is very highly rated (and we've found them to be good to deal with) and of course there's the eco cridentials

could probably have saved slightly more than we did with our switch but it wouldn't be worth it for us for bad customer service and ethics

I think ecotricity are currently giving away free gin to new customers.. which is a bit random but might be of interest to some..

Flow Energy, saved us £300 a year.

Utility, smart meters, brilliant.
Makes you really notice what you're using and so easy to understand.

I've been with several suppliers and these are by far the best.

Another vote for EDF. Easy to use online. Was wary about going onto direct debit but it has been spot on. Not required customer services often but good when used.

Im with npower....i pay £44 a month and get the warm home discount...ive been with them for years and just change my tariff to their cheapest one....
