Cheapest hayfever tablets?

The daffodils outside my house are a lovely but sad reminder that the hayfever season is starting. I usually end up double-dosing on citirizine and loratadine for a month or so when its really bad. End up spending a fortune - was thinking of trying some online, but would like some recommendations of where is best to go? I don't want flour (or worse) placebos!

Morrison's do their own brand. Have forgotten the exact price but are much cheaper than named brands and very effective

Boots have a one-a-day antihistamine for 99p for 7. They are as good as any of the branded ones I've tried.
They don't always have them in stock though.
Or are you looking for cheaper than that?

Sainsbury's do 14 cetrazine hydrachloride for £1.50

aldi do 30 for about a quid but theirs is just seasonal so not sure if they're in stock yet

I second the boots once a day for 99p tablets. I think you get 7 in a pack.

Lloyds pharmacy have 30 10mg cetrazine tabs for £1.20

Also Tesco Sleep Aid tablets have the same ingredients for just over a quid or 60 for £3 which are also on 3 for 2 offer.

Another vote for chemist direct. You have to pay p&p but the overall cost still works out cheaper than anywhere else.

Chemist4U has a pack of 30 cetirizine/loratidine for 69p. It is on moneysavingexpert as cheapest even factoring in delivery charges

Is it worth going back to the GP - have there been any new drugs recently? It makes this lovely time of year so miserable to constantly sniffling/sneezing/dozy from all the drugs.

So are you supposed/allowed to take more than 1x 1day tablet, my son is really bad especially when he as been out drink. The next day he is constant sneezing for hour or so

My son has really bad hay fever in the grass season and says this helps a lot

I wouldnt take more than the stated dose without the ok from a gp

No definitely get it approved, mine is consultant prescribed. As an examples one a day tablet is 10mg and at one point I was on 285mg of antihistamines

If your GP would give a decent length of prescription for both (to get you through the season) might that work out cheaper?

can you not get a pre-payment certificate to make prescriptions cheaper? (I'm in Scotland so prescriptions also free here)

My GP won't give more than 3 months on one prescription - i.e. £7.85 = £2.60 per month, which works out comparable/cheaper than superstore own brand tablets. The problem is me being organised enough to go order it and pick it up!

Also I do double dose when its bad (without permission from GP... ) so get through it twice as fast. One dose only seems to last me 12 hours so I need another in the evening.

Lightasbreeze, yes the beconase nose spray gets a lot of use too!

My husband has really severe hayfever...to the point where he can't drive or even work (he literally can't see his eyes/nose are so bad). He gets something called Fenofexidine from the GP. He gets a month at a time as GP won't prescribe it more frequently for the price of a prescription but he only has to have it once a day.

Take any one-a-day at night - it will help with the pollen rising on the early morning, which I finds makes me feel better during the day, and the worst of the drowsiness is at night then, too. Then a top up of beconase before I leave the house

Not medicine, but not woo - Vaseline inside the nostrils. I have grass and pollen allergies and it makes an astounding difference to mine by catching some of it before it gets inside my head

So can you get 3 months of antihistimines and beconase on one prescription? That doesn't sound bad value. I'll second the taking it at night and Vaseline around your nose. Hopefully then you'll be ok sticking to the prescribed dose. I always shower morning and evening when my hayfever is at it's worst - that helps a lot for the evenings especially.

Set a reminder on your phone a fortnight before you need it - get your repeat prescription in then you've got some breathing space to collect it before running out.

Boots loratadine 7 tablets are 99p. They are non drowsy. Often they are on a buy one get one half price in hay fever season. Very effective.
